The latest recruiting intel for five-star SG Jalil Bethea
Jalil Bethea took his official visit to Miami this past weekend. It was Bethea’s fifth official visit of this recruiting cycle. Kansas, Villanova, St. Joseph’s, and Syracuse were the other four.
Bethea is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Warminster (PA) Archbishop Wood High. He burst on the scene this summer when he averaged 18.6 points and shot 42.6 percent from three during Nike’s EYBL Regular Season. He was the leading scorer for a Team Final program that entered Peach Jam as the No. 1 seed, finishing the regular season 16-1.
On3 first moved Bethea into its top 30 in March after his standout high school season. He ended Peach Jam and is currently ranked No. 11 in On3’s 2024 On3 150. The five-star guard is No. 12 in the On3 Industry Ranking and a five-star by three of the four major recruiting networks.
The Intel
Miami carried some momentum into last weekend’s visit. The Hurricanes have been on Bethea for a while, as assistant coach DJ Irving is a former coach with the Team Final program and grew up playing in the Philadelphia Catholic League. Sources say that there are some close to Jalil Bethea who have been pushing Miami.
Intel suggests that this weekend’s visit answered any questions for those around Bethea. One source told me that Miami has confidence here coming out of the visit.
On paper, looking forward, Bethea still has visit dates set with Syracuse and Alabama. Continue to watch if those visits are taken. There is also buzz about Duke pushing to get a visit with Bethea. This is something that could still happen. However, one source close to the recruitment tells me there is some pause with four-star wings Darren Harris and Isaiah Evans already committed and with Duke being the perceived leader for 2024’s No. 1 overall-ranked Cooper Flagg. Duke also has official visits set with On3 five-star shooting guards Kon Knueppel and VJ Edgecombe.
At this point, Miami continues to carry the momentum. However, recruiting can be fluid coming down the home stretch. Intel suggests that Kansas – took his official visit the previous weekend – gave Bethea and his circle something to think about. Bill Self is a noted closer on the recruiting trail.
Bethea has not publicly set a commitment date. So continue to monitor the visit situation. Miami still has some visits with upcoming wings (Miami Official Visit Tracker), and with four-star shooting guard Austin Swartz already in the fold, watch what happens with those upcoming wing visits. Sources say that Miami is still looking to sign a high school forward, so they should continue to bring those in.
Continue to monitor if Bethea takes the Syracuse and Alabama visits and if he sets up something with Duke.
Also, watch for…
There is still talk of the G-League Ignite with Jalil Bethea. While an official offer has not been given, sources close to the recruitment maintain that the Ignite program interests Bethea and that if an offer does come, he would listen.
At this point, this is nothing because there is no offer. However, it is something to monitor as things progress.
