Rusty’s Ramblings: Major Georgia target intel, latest on injured Bulldogs

Georgia currently has 26 commitments in its No. 1-ranked 2024 class and it hopes to add more to it by the end of the season. DawgsHQ has some Tuesday scoop on a guy they’d love to bring in plus some intel on a pair of injured players whose prognosis looks promising for the coming weekend.

*** Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott was down in Florida on Friday night. As DawgsHQ reported Friday morning, I’m told that Scott made a trip to Mainland High School (Daytona Beach) in the afternoon to see elite defensive lineman LJ McCray. The 6-foot-6 275-pound defender told On3Sports recently that he wants to make a decision by the “end of October.” Georgia is considered a heavy contender for the four-star talent. Sources tell DawgsHQ that he is expected to be on the Georgia campus campus at some point this fall for an unofficial visit. We will work to get more confirmation on that. As we’ve said a number of times now, he is a MAJOR, MAJOR target for UGA in this 2024 class.

*** I am told that Daijun Edwards was in a full contact jersey in Monday’s practice. I don’t think he is full go this weekend, but, based on what I’ve heard, I think he can get 10-15 snaps, almost like Georgia did with Smael Mondon this past weekend. It sounds like they’ll ease him back in to live game action.

*** I was told again on Monday night that, unless there is a setback, all indications point to Ladd McConkey playing some this weekend. He has been practicing for over a week at this point and Georgia would like to get him back into action before the South Carolina game on September 16.

*** Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint will be back this week as confirmed by Kirby Smart. The Georgia head coach’s comments indicate that he was suspended for that first game and it’s clear that he is a guy they are excited to get back because of his leadership and experience. Having him in the huddle should be a good calming influence for Carson Beck.
