V-Cast: Reaction to Michigan State WR commitment Nick Marsh’s excellent opening night
Detroit – Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh turned in a standout performance in the opening game of his senior year on Friday for River Rouge High School in a 35-28 loss to defending state champion Belleville at the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic.
SpartanMag publisher Jim Comparoni and SpartanMag correspondent Kenny Jordan were on hand to watch the game, and provided a 10-minute SpartanMag V-Cast from Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University.
Among the topics discussed were Marsh’s usage as a Wildcat quarterback in this game, especially in the red zone, and his 95-yard kickoff return.
Marsh rushed for 71 yards, including TD runs of 11 yards and 3 yards, plus a 30-yarder on a punt fake (he serves as River Rouge’s punter).
The future Michigan State wide receiver also had five catches for 51 yards for River Rouge, a perennial Division III contender against Belleville, the two-time defending Division I state champion.
Marsh is the nation’s No. 126 overall prospect and No. 23 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Michigan.
In the V-Cast, Comparoni and Jordan also discuss the performance of Belleville quarterback Bryce Underwood, who is ranked the No. 1 player in the nation in the On3 Industry Rankings. Michigan State is not a factor in Underwood’s recruitment. LSU, Michigan and Ohio State are among the favorites.
Marsh is the highest-rated prospect in Michigan State’s 2024 class. He is joined by two other blue-chip pledges: Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star running back Anthony Carrie and Mount Pleasant (Mich.) four-star offensive lineman Andrew Dennis.
Marsh currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $117,000. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
