Susquehanna Twp. WR Lex Cyrus discusses Penn State and which schools are showing the most interest heading into junior season

Penn State has offered 15 players so far in Pennsylvania for the Class of 2025. Positions like running back and offensive line feature a handful of realistic targets, but so far, Susquehanna Twp. prospect Lex Cyrus is the lone in-state wide receiver to earn an offer from the staff.

Listed at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, Cyrus is up to 19 offers now, with Penn State making its move in June following a strong performance at the staff’s annual Whiteout Camp.

“My recruitment is going pretty good. It’s been better than I expected so far,” Cyrus said. “I’m sitting at 19 offers. I picked my last one up last week [from Auburn]. So, it’s going good. I plan to just focus on my junior season these next couple of months and then I’ll really start evaluating where I want to be.”

Cyrus’ recruitment also received a boost in late May when we won the 100-meter state championship, posting a time of 10.67 seconds. Just one week earlier, he ran a personal best of 10.45 seconds at the District III championship. As you would expect, those times have caught the attention of many schools.

“Yeah, that’s definitely been a conversation I’m having with a lot of coaches now, especially after I won. A lot of schools seem interested in my speed,” Cyrus said.

As for Penn State, Cyrus said he’s been steadily speaking with different members of the staff since Aug. 1, which is when coaches from all schools were allowed to initiate conversations over the phone.

“Yeah, I’ve had a couple coaches from there hit me up August 1,” he said, referring to Penn State. “I was actually talking to one of their coaches [over the weekend]. But I have a couple of their coaches staying in contact. Coach Khalil [Ahmad] reached out to me the other day and I usually talk to Coach [Marques] Hagans, the receivers coach. They’re the main two guys.”

He went on to add, “They’re both real cool. The one thing I like is that you never hear any negativity from their coaching staff. It’s always just a bunch of positivity from them. I also really liked interacting with them at camp. Their coaches were honest about everything. They showed me what I do well, what I still need to work on. They showed me a lot of things that are going to help me.”

Cyrus also said he’s had family attend Penn State.

“I had family that went there, so I definitely understand how important Penn State is to the people around here,” he said.

Cyrus is currently unranked by On3. He ran a 4.35-second 40 earlier this summer and holds offers from programs like Auburn, Duke, Maryland, Nebraska, Pitt, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. Cyrus said there are a few programs contacting him the most since Aug. 1.

“Cincinnati has been hitting me up a lot and so has Rutgers,” he said. “Of course, Penn State as well. Texas A&M and Nebraska are a couple others.”
