4-star TE AJ La locks in six official visits
Orange (Calif.) Lutheran tight end AJ Ia has been taking the recruiting process at his own pace over the past year. After a few spring visits, things are starting to pick and take shape for the No. 119 prospect in the On300.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound four-star has locked in six official visits.
“I am visiting Arizona State on April 26, SMU on May 17, Florida on May 31, Kansas on June 14, Washington on June 21 and Auburn on Sept. 26,” Ia told On3. “I am working on setting up an official visit to Colorado too.”
Ia was in Boulder earlier this spring. He has also visited Auburn, Arizona State and Washington in the past. He has yet to trip to Dallas, Gainesville or Lawrence.
He has always taken his time with the recruiting process and although he has locked in numerous official visits, he still will go at his own pace.
“I really don’t have a timeline on when I want to commit, but it could be any time before that first signing day,” Ia added. “I would say the people I’m going to be surrounded by the next 3-4 years, the team, school culture and how I’m going to fit in in the offense are the most important things to me when I make my decision.”
More on Ia and his personal life
AJ Ia is listed as a tight end on most boards, but he believes he’s much more than that. In fact, he believes he’s one of the most multipurpose receivers in the country. “It’s pretty much my versatility,” Ia said when describing what he does best. “Coaches liked my route running and how I get moved out to the X position, outside receiver, to the inside receiver, could be on the line. It doesn’t matter to me. I’ll pretty much go wherever I’m needed, but I prefer to be more of a stand-up type of guy. I’m also a strong blocker. I pride myself in that, too.” As a junior at Orange Lutheran, Ia had 24 receptions for 362 yards and five touchdowns. His all-around game has rival Trinity League coaches comparing him to Travis Kelce.
