2026 QB target Will Griffin recaps return to Austin
The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit signal-caller Will Griffin hit the University of Texas in late January for Junior Day. He made sure to make it back when he was invited by Steve Sarkisian and AJ Milwee for UT’s scrimmage on Saturday.
“It’s special because I got to come here and see the scrimmage,” Griffin told Inside Texas’ Joe Cook. “I hadn’t got to do that before at Texas, so I was grateful for the opportunity. I got to sit down with coach Milwee and talked to him for a little bit about the offense and how it works. They have three scholarship guys (at QB) and they’re all doing fairly well. I thought the practice went exceptionally well today.”
Any specific players stand out from the live scrimmage on Saturday?
“Yeah it was really Quinn (Ewers),” Griffin noted. “I mean I have to give props to him. He was calm and composed out there. Obviously he’s a veteran and knows what he’s doing. He was making plays, changing protections, and all that stuff. Props to Arch (Manning) too. It’s his second year, and he’s getting the hang of it. It’s not an easy offense to learn. That’s why they’re very successful at a high level.”
What was Sarkisian and Milwee’s message for the Sunshine State talent?
“Sark was super busy, but coach Milwee was great, love seeing him and talking ball,” Griffin said. “Obviously we talked about the recruiting process and how things are going. We also talked about when I could get back here soon. Obviously he recruits the best players.
After trips to the West Coast and Florida, Griffin told IT he wouldn’t be taking anymore Spring visits.
Where does Griffin stand at this stage of his recruitment?
“It’s like do I want to come in (to a program) early so you can build a better relationship with the guys, learn the offense, help recruit the class from a quarterback standpoint, which is a big deal,” said Griffin. “I’ll definitely narrow down here in the next month or two.”
Griffin didn’t pick up a Texas offer on Saturday, but Milwee told him to be patient and they’ll likely be by his school in May.
With offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Auburn, Florida State, and UF, Florida is trending with odds of 43.0 percent, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine,
The four-star prospect delivered in his sophomore season. He finished with a 67.6 completion percentage, 3,404 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2023.
Griffin is the No. 7 quarterback, No. 18 prospect in Florida, and No. 106 player overall in the Class of 2025, according to the On300 rankings.
