Zion Logue to stay in-state, taken by Falcons in NFL Draft

Georgia defensive lineman Zion Logue is going to have an opportunity to stay in state. The Atlanta Falcons just took him in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the 197th overall pick.

Logue saw action in 50 career contests for Georgia including all but one for the Bulldogs over the last three season. His career started back in 2019, and he played a combined seven games in his first two years. He did manage an impressive five-tackle performance against South Carolina in 2020, earning more attention as Georgia headed into 2021.

Playing behind the likes of Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt and Jalen Carter on the interior, Logue still managed to make an appearance in every game during the 2021 season as Georgia won the first of its two straight national championships. He finished with 11 tackles and three pressures that season. Then, in 2022, he made his first career start and had a big impact for the Bulldogs on their way to a second title. After recording a sack against Auburn in 2021, Logue had three tackles and recovered a fumble against the Tigers in 2022. He also forced one in UGA’s win over Samford earlier in the year.

After starting 10 games and recording a career-high 17 tackles this past season, Logue’s career totals come out to 52 tackles including 28 solo stops and 4.5 for loss. He managed 1.5 sacks, three pass deflections and the 2022 involvement on a pair of fumbles.

“Well he creates a lot of value in the locker room. He’s a lunch pail guy. He carries his lunch pail every day to work and he gives you an honest day’s work every day,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Logue during the 2023 season. “He competes, he covers down. He’s always one of the hardest guys when they throw the ball and he breaks and covers down. When you’ve been in this program as long as he has, there’s a lot of work that he’s done that we certainly appreciate as a staff. He buys into the hard work.”

Logue represents the eighth Georgia player to be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, joining Brock Bowers (Las Vegas Raiders), Amarius Mims (Cincinnati Bengals), Ladd McConkey (Los Angeles Chargers), Kamari Lassiter (Houston Texans), Javon Bullard (Green Bay Packers), Tykee Smith (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Sedrick Van Pran (Buffalo Bills). Coverage of the NFL Draft in Detroit continues on ABC, ESPN and NFL Network as the final day plays out.
