Xavier Lucas makes official visit to Iowa

Class of 2024 defensive back Xavier Lucas had a chance to make his first trip to Iowa for an official visit with the Hawkeyes this past weekend. For the 6-foot-2, 184-pound Florida native, it was a good opportunity to get an inside look at the program and what makes it so consistent on a year-to-year basis.

“Something that stood out was how supportive the players are for each other,” Lucas told HawkeyeReport.com.

The trip also gave Lucas a chance to spend some time with the current players at Iowa, including his host, a fellow South Florida native.

“My host was Jaziun Patterson,” said Lucas. “I fit in great. Everybody was welcoming and cool people to be around.”

Sitting down with the coaches, Lucas spent a lot of time with Hawkeye defensive coordinator Phil Parker, who also coaches the secondary, and likes what he has heard about Iowa’s success at defensive back.

“I spent the most time with Coach Parker probably,” Lucas said. “His message to me was that they have everything I need there to get where I want to be in the future academically and from a football standpoint. Also, the opportunity to play for one of the best defenses in the country.”

A three-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 86.74, Lucas has earned scholarship offers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Rutgers, Stanford, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Oregon State, Colorado, Tennessee, Louisville, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, West Virginia, and South Florida during the recruiting process.

Over the past month, the Fort Lauderdale Dillard standout has made official visits to Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Rutgers, and now plans to take some time to evaluate all of his options.

“Making the right decision would be next,” said Lucas. “There isn’t a specific timeline I’d like to decide by, but I’m going to try to decide before the season.”
