Year One at Miami<\/a><\/strong> under Mario Cristobal<\/a><\/strong>? Not exactly the results anyone in Coral Gables was looking for. Especially with a veteran quarterback such as Tyler Van Dyke<\/a><\/strong>. The Hurricanes struggled to a 5-7 record and missed a bowl game for the second consecutive season.<\/p>\n

When speaking at the Manning Passing Academy, Van Dyke admitted last year was not a good one for Miami. Thankfully, the page has been turned and the 2023 season becomes the focus. Van Dyke was everyone is committed to working hard and taking the schedule one game at a time.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, didn\u2019t have a great year as a team,\u201d Van Dyke admitted<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re just working hard as a team. Just coming to work every day. Got some good players in, got some good players coming back. So, we expect to have a good year. Just got to take it game by game and keep working hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miami did bring some reinforcements in, both via the 2023 recruiting class<\/a><\/strong> and the NCAA transfer portal<\/a><\/strong>. The offensive line was a key area, a place Cristobal has historically had a ton of success. Javion Cohen<\/a><\/strong> transferred in from Alabama<\/a><\/strong>, as did former UCF<\/a><\/strong> starting center Matt Lee<\/a><\/strong>. Add in Five-Star Plus+<\/a><\/strong> offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa<\/a><\/strong> and Van Dyke is going to have some extra protection.<\/p>\n

Gary Ferman<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0CaneSport<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0recently talked about the offensive line improvement<\/a><\/strong>, as Miami looks to dominate up front.<\/p>\n

Van Dyke himself will likely have to improve for Miami as a team to meet expectations. Numbers significantly dropped for the quarterback, throwing for just 1,835 yards and 10 touchdowns in nine games played. Five interceptions were just one off from his career high as well.<\/p>\n

A potential transfer to Alabama almost ruined the entire season for Miami. Nick Saban<\/a><\/strong> and Tommy Rees<\/a><\/strong> came calling for Van Dyke, looking to add him to their quarterback competition. The Hurricanes were able to fend them off, keeping Van Dyke with the program for at least one more season.<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s time to deliver on expectations. Van Dyke said taking a game one at a time, with Miami (OH)<\/a><\/strong> being the first game on the schedule. Next up will Texas A&M<\/a><\/strong>, who is making the trip following last year\u2019s contest in College Station. Revenge is likely on Miami\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n

Until then, hard work is taking place in the offseason. Fall camp will begin shortly when Van Dyke and Co. will really begin to buckle down.<\/p>\n
