The Nittany Lions are officially in the home stretch of spring practice. The team has just four more days of drills to go before the Blue-White game on April 16. On Tuesday, the team did its usual position-specific work on the practice field while reporters were on hand. Afterward, head coach James Franklin\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> top updates included how his team is preparing to handle the opening of the spring transfer portal window (more on that below) and his preference for college football to have just one portal window. <\/p>\n \u201cI think from my board meetings with the AFCA and what most coaches across the country are speaking on, I want to be careful not speaking for all coaches, but I think a good majority of them would like one window. I think that\u2019s in everybody\u2019s best interest,\u201d Franklin said. \u201cThe players know who\u2019s on the roster. The coaches know who\u2019s on the roster. Even if you made it after spring ball and then even maybe got rid of spring football, and went to like a summer OTAs or did it then, I think there needs to be one window. Right now, there\u2019s no rules. <\/p>\n \u201cYou could have 50 guys go in the portal at this time of year, and it\u2019s a problem. There\u2019s also protection already for if there\u2019s a coaching change and things like that that we\u2019ve seen. Right now, there\u2019s just no rules, and I don\u2019t really think it\u2019s in anybody\u2019s best interest.\u201d<\/p>\n In other news, as noted above, the spring transfer portal window opens today for football players who are undergraduates. It lasts for 10 days, closing at 11:59 p.m. ET on April 26. As of Wednesday morning, only one Penn State player is in the portal. Offensive lineman JB Nelson<\/a><\/strong> is officially in after leaving the team last week.<\/p>\n
