South Carolina had a record-setting offensive performance in the 108-48 win over Tennessee Tech. Here\u2019s what stood out from the game. <\/p>\n
\u2013 It wasn\u2019t a perfect game. South Carolina had 16 turnovers. And the starters got off to a slow start in the third quarter causing Dawn Staley to make a line change.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The second unit immediately went on an 18-2 run, and everything was once again right in the world. But it gives Staley something to critique before Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to see what they could do in that situation and see if they could energize us,\u201d Staley said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2013 A side benefit of a 60-point margin of victory is that little-used players get lots of playing time. Maryam Dauda, Maddy McDaniel, and Adhel Tac each made the first NCAA Tournament appearance of their careers. They also got to play extended stretches, with McDaniel playing almost 19 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McDaniel finished with two points, three assists, and two rebounds. And Tac did well enough to earn a trip to the post-game podium, chipping in six points, a rebound, and a block.\u00a0<\/p>\n The highlight was a perfect lob pass from McDaniel to Tac for a layup that had everyone saying, only half-joking, there is the future.<\/p>\n \u201cIt felt pretty great, honestly,\u201d Tac said. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to come into the game with any expectations. I just wanted to play my game, so I went into the quarter not expecting myself to do anything. Didn\u2019t have like a set number of how many points I wanted to make or anything. I just want to play good basketball.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2013 She wasn\u2019t one of the stars of the game on Friday, but it was encouraging to see Te-Hina Paopao score nine points on 3-6 shooting from three. Paopao has been in a slump for about a month.
