All three possible opponents in Friday\u2019s quarterfinals \u2014 No. 5 Texas A&amp;M, No. 12 Vanderbilt or No. 13 Texas \u2014 had already been picked apart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoaches have already went back and looked at games since we played them and all that,\u201d Tennessee coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/rick-barnes-238780\/\">Rick Barnes<\/a><\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/tennessee-volunteers\/news\/tennessee-vols-basketball-sec-tournament-preview-rick-barnes-press-conference\/\">before practice Wednesday<\/a>. \u201cAnd then they all have a chance to go to the game and see if there\u2019s anything prior to us or whoever it is that we play.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we\u2019ve got all that done now and we\u2019ll just wait and see who it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Up Next: No. 4 Tennessee vs. No. 13 Texas, Friday: 3:30 p.m. ET<\/h2>\n<p>Texas (19-14) is who it is, after the Longhorns beat Vanderbilt Wednesday afternoon and Texas A&amp;M in double overtime Thursday, setting up the quarterfinal matchup with Tennessee (25-6) at Bridgestone Arena.\u00a0Friday\u2019s game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time start on ESPN.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Associate head coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/justin-gainey-132059\/\">Justin Gainey<\/a><\/strong> said Thursday afternoon there would be a recent history lesson to go with the Texas scouting report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee doesn\u2019t want to be one-and-done at the SEC Tournament again, not after falling flat in a 73-56 loss to Mississippi State as the No. 1 seed a year ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t sat down as a team and talked about it yet,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/tennessee-volunteers\/news\/tennessee-vols-basketball-sec-tournament-preview-justin-gainey-associate-head-coach\/\">Gainey said<\/a>. \u201cWe will do that (Thursday night) as we kind of close in on who we think we\u2019ll be playing, start preparing for that and with scouting and all that good stuff. But it will be something that we talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mississippi State game, the first game of the postseason, was arguably Tennessee\u2019s worst 40 minutes of basketball all season. And it came on the heels of a loss to Kentucky on Senior Day at Food City Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn\u2019t a sign of things to come. The Vols went from a no-show in Nashville to an Elite Eight run \u2014 just the second in program history \u2014 over the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid that have anything to do with it?\u201d Gainey asked if the SEC Tournament loss. \u201cI don\u2019t know. But I do know that every game we play we want to win, right?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Going into the (NCAA) Tournament you have a little uneasiness about how that performance went\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Tennessee\u2019s season isn\u2019t on the line at the SEC Tournament. The Vols are comfortably on the No. 2-seed line in NCAA Tournament projections and could stake claim to the final No. 1 seed should Florida and Alabama struggle.<\/p>\n<p>But every basketball team wants to advance in every bracket. That\u2019s as simple as Gainey could boil it down.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about winning championships,\u201d he said, \u201cso this is the second tournament that we\u2019ve had this season. And we won down in The Bahamas and it\u2019s our intent to come here and try to win this one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was the Baha Mar Hoops Championship in November, when Tennessee blitzed Virginia and Baylor over back-to-back days to take home the trophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The reminder to the team isn\u2019t about that tournament, though.
