Michigan freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood<\/a><\/strong> has never lacked for confidence, one of the reasons many suspected he\u2019d be an elite player as early as his middle school days. Underwood has been every bit as good as advertised in the early going as both a player and a teammate, and his swagger \u2026 well, it\u2019s as pronounced as ever. <\/p>\n

Recently, Underwood \u2014 via friend and Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden \u2014\u00a0met Ohio State fan and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James after a Lakers game. He put his cards on the table before James could say anything, he told Rich Eisen on his show today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up a LeBron James fan. I have the Miami Heat jersey. I have the Cleveland jersey, all that,\u201d Underwood said, noting Harden helped set up the postgame meeting at halftime. \u201cI said, \u2018before this gets all started, I just had to let you know, I go to Michigan.\u2019 He was like, \u2018Oh \u2026 yeah.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Yeah \u2026 it\u2019s over for Ohio State.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

James took it well, he said, but Underwood had to let him know the next few Novembers were going to \u201cgo like the last four,\u201d which included two blowout wins and two that came down to the wire. <\/p>\n

Underwood, the nation\u2019s top prep quarterback and No. 1 overall player, enrolled early and is already preparing for spring ball and the chance to start this fall. He\u2019s competing with Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene<\/a><\/strong> for the job, and the two should push each other in spring ball through the summer. <\/p>\n

He told Eisen he\u2019s already thought about running through the tunnel and touching the banner for his first time in a winged helmet. He\u2019ll have every opportunity to win the job.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course [I\u2019ve thought about that],\u201d Underwood said. \u201cWith social media being a huge thing, there are going to be a ton of cameras out. My whole life \u2014 high school, 7-on-7s, everything I\u2019ve been going through\u2014 there have been cameras out, so it\u2019s just another big step that\u2019s going to happen. That\u2019s going to kick off my legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked what his legacy would be, Underwood paused. <\/p>\n

\u201cA couple Heismans and at least one Natty (National Championship),\u201d he predicted. <\/p>\n

Time will tell, but he\u2019s ready to get started and prove himself as the next U-M great. <\/p>\n\n
