South Carolina<\/a><\/strong> coach Shane Beamer<\/a><\/strong> is set to appear at a House hearing on Tuesday, and he outlined a dire situation for college athletics in his written testimony to lawmakers ahead of the appearance.<\/p>\n

Yahoo! Sports\u2019 Ross Dellenger<\/strong> posted a copy of Beamer\u2019s written testimony<\/a> on Twitter on Monday afternoon, offering a glimpse into how the hearing is likely to go from Beamer\u2019s end.<\/p>\n

Suffice it to say, the Gamecocks head man is intent on grabbing lawmakers\u2019 attention.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you do not act, college sports will be destroyed by never-ending litigation and conflicting state laws,\u201d Beamer wrote. \u201cAnd designating student-athletes as employees is not the right path because an employment model will drastically reduce the number of sports a school is able to offer. In contrast, a federal law will guarantee the future of Olympic sports that help develop future Olympians.\u201d<\/p>\n

The push from Shane Beamer comes against a backdrop of major change in college athletics, change that has outpaced the regulatory environment it has occurred in.<\/p>\n

In order to corral things and get a handle on the collegiate sports landscape, Beamer and others are pushing the Congressional bodies to legislate issues such as student-athlete compensation.<\/p>\n

Shane Beamer will testify in front of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade in a hearing titled \u201cMoving the Goalposts: How NIL is Reshaping College Athletics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are at a critical crossroads in college athletics, and quite simply, we need your help,\u201d Beamer wrote. \u201cThe system is long overdue change; the current situation is unsustainable. A national, bi-partisan federal law will provide equal opportunity for all student-athletes to benefit from NIL and create a uniform standard to ensure we\u2019re all playing by the same rules.\u201d<\/p>\n

In making his case, Shane Beamer also outlined the benefits of athletics in the lives of student-athletes.<\/p>\n

\u201cA college education is invaluable, especially given the reality that less than 2% percent of college student-athletes advance to professional sports careers,\u201d Beamer wrote. \u201cA federal law codifying the settlement will maintain an education-based model for college sports while ensuring the opportunity for student-athletes to earn a degree and the tools necessary to be successful in life after sports.\u201d<\/p>\n
