Legendary Alabama Crimson Tide<\/strong><\/a> football practice official Eddie Conyers reportedly<\/a> fell last Friday, breaking his right hip. On Sunday, he would undergo surgery in Birmingham on the injury.<\/p>\n

This comes just a month after Conyers\u2019 76th wedding anniversary. He has spent more than 60 years as a practice official for the Crimson Tide and was 96 years old at the start of the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

Last Fri. he fell & broke his right hip.<\/p>\n

Yesterday he underwent surgery in Birmingham just a month after his 76th wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thinking of retiring when I reach 100,\u201d Conyers previously told AL.com<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In his long career at Alabama, Eddie Conyers has seen some legends come through the program. Recently, that included Nick Saban, who would joke with his practice official. According to Conyers<\/a>, \u201cCoach Saban said I\u2019m the second-best official in the world. Everyone else is tied for first.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, Conyers time at Alabama goes well back beyond his time with Saban. In fact, it goes back all the way to the legendary Bear Bryant. He was looking for officials to help out at practices back then and approached Conyers. It was a simple \u201cYes, sir,\u201d from Conyers and he\u2019s been a practice official at Alabama since then. <\/p>\n

That was in 1962. Since then, Alabama has won 12 national championships and 24 SEC Championships. Countless legends have played on the practice field in Tuscaloosa during that time. So, it\u2019s safe to say that Eddie Conyers has seen all there is to see in program history. <\/p>\n

Over the course of that time, the only thing that has lasted longer is Conyers\u2019 marriage to his wife, Peggy. Going strong for 76 years, he says it\u2019s because \u201cWe make sure we go out twice a week. I go out on Tuesdays, and she goes out on Saturdays. We\u2019ve been married so long, we\u2019re on our second bottle of Tobasco.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of now, it\u2019s unclear how long Conyers is going to be on the mend from his surgery. Hopefully, he\u2019ll be able to bounce back and be back on the practice field soon. <\/p>\n
