No. 15 Duke (8-3) scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat No. 14 Nebraska softball (9-3) 3-0<\/a> in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jordy Bahl did everything possible to lead the Huskers to victory. She threw 10 strikeouts and didn\u2019t allow a hit until the eighth inning. She gave up two hits and three runs in the eighth as her defense struggled. The redshirt junior recorded two of Nebraska\u2019s five hits with a triple and a double. <\/p>\n

Duke left-handed pitcher Cassidy Curd<\/strong> allowed five hits and no runs in a complete game. She recorded nine strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Nebraska had many chances to score but did not capitalize. They went 0-for-14 with runners on base.<\/p>\n

The Huskers are now 1-2 in the classic. They defeated Baylor 4-1 and were run-ruled by No. 4 UCLA 9-1 in six innings on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Pitching battle<\/h2>\n

Bahl and Curd didn\u2019t allow a run until the eighth inning.<\/p>\n

Bahl recorded the first two hits of the game. She crushed a triple to right field in the bottom of the first. She was called out at home after Sammie Bland<\/strong> hit a fly ball to center. The redshirt junior notched a double to right center in the bottom of the fourth. Her teammates could not get her home.<\/p>\n

In the circle, Bahl retired 17 batters in a row. D\u2019Auna Jennings<\/strong> ended the streak in the top of the sixth. She drew a two-out walk, just as she did to start the game. Ana Gold<\/strong> flied out for the third out and left Jennings on base.<\/p>\n

Lauren Camenzind<\/strong> and Abbie Squier <\/strong>hit lead-off singles in the fifth and sixth innings. Camenzind moved to third after a throwing error but was left on third. Squier advanced to second base on a wild pitch, but Curd struck out three straight Huskers to end the inning.<\/p>\n

Nebraska softball split the <\/a><\/strong>first day of the Mary Nutter Classic<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

L. Camenzind hit another single to get on base in the bottom of the seventh. But again, Nebraska could not capitalize. The Huskers and Blue Devils went into extra innings, meaning a runner was played on second to start the inning.<\/p>\n

Duke scored three in the top of the eighth. With two outs, Gabriella Mike, the runner placed in second, scored after Brooklinn Thomas hit a ball to shortstop, and the throw to home was late. Gold hit a 2-run single. Thessa Malau\u2019ulu was tagged out at home for the third out.<\/p>\n

L. Camenzind started the bottom of the eighth on second for the Huskers. She moved to third on a wild pitch but was stranded. <\/p>\n

The Huskers take on San Jose State and Howard in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22. Nebraska vs. SJSU is at 7:30 p.m. CT. NU faces Howard at 10 p.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n

They close out the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic against Utah on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. All three games are streamed on FloSports and can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network.<\/p>\n
