Veteran offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery<\/a><\/strong> is the primary target of the Virginia Tech<\/strong><\/a> OC search, according to ESPN\u2019s Pete Thamel.<\/p>\n

\u201cSources: Veteran Offensive Coordinator Philip Montgomery has emerged as the target of the Virginia Tech offensive coordinator search, and the sides are expected to come together on a deal soon,\u201d Thamel wrote on Twitter.<\/a> \u201cHe\u2019s the former head coach at Tulsa<\/strong><\/a> who has coordinated at both Auburn<\/strong><\/a> and Baylor<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Montgomery was last in action as a coach as the co-OC of the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL last season. Prior to that, he was Auburn\u2019s offensive coordinator in 2023 after his stint as Tulsa\u2019s head coach.<\/p>\n

While with the Golden Hurricane, Montgomery went 43-53 overall and went to four bowl games. In 2016, Tulsa was 10-3 and were winners of the Miami Beach Bowl.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Montgomery led Tulsa to the AAC Championship Game, but they fell short to Cincinnati and then lost the Armed Forces Bowl in the shortened season.<\/p>\n

Philip Montgomery to Virginia Tech<\/h2>\n

Montgomery could definitely bring a boost to the Virginia Tech offense in 2025. Still, there\u2019s around 200 days or so until kickoff of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Brent Pry<\/a> shared some thoughts on what\u00a0the Hokies\u2019 schedule looks like<\/a>\u00a0for next season. Pry did so at\u00a0a recent press conference<\/a>\u00a0last week. <\/p>\n

As of now, though, he hasn\u2019t given it too much of a thought yet with them still a few weeks out from spring practice in\u00a0Blacksburg<\/a>. Perhaps Montgomery will be in the fold shortly.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, honestly, um, I haven\u2019t dove into it a ton,\u201d said Pry. \u201cI mean, obviously, I know what it looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first thing that Pry did note about the\u00a0Virginia Tech\u2019s<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0schedule<\/a>\u00a0were the aspects of their conference slate in\u00a0the ACC<\/a>. Their league opponents next fall will be\u00a0NC State<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Wake Forest<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Georgia Tech<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0California<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Louisville<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Florida State<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Miami<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0Virginia<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n

That includes road trips to Raleigh, Atlanta, Tallahassee, and Charlottesville. There is also one weekday date right now with their game against the Golden Bears being on either October 23rd (Thursday) or October 24th (Friday).<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, we\u2019ve got to see where that game, that Cal game falls,\u201d Pry said. \u201cAnd, you know, we\u2019ve got to do, you know, the away trips and make sure we plan the way we need to for those.\u201d<\/p>\n
