North Carolina<\/a><\/strong> QB Michael Merdinger<\/a> has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal<\/a> per On3\u2019s Pete Nakos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Merdinger just finished his first collegiate<\/a> season in Chapel Hill. With that, he had not appeared or recorded any statistics for the Tar Heels as a true freshman.<\/p>\n

Merdinger, a native of Fort Lauderdale, played high school football<\/a> at Cardinal Gibbons<\/a>. He was the No. 918 overall recruit there as a three-star prospect in the 2024 cycle<\/a>. He also rated as a Top-60 QB in the class<\/a> and a Top-150 player in the state of Florida<\/a>. That\u2019s according to the On3 Industry Ranking<\/a>, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He joined UNC then as one of the signees in a Top-30 recruiting class<\/a> for them last cycle.<\/p>\n

Now, Merdinger is the latest entry into the portal during this cycle<\/a> for North Carolina. That\u2019s also all amidst the coaching change to Bill Belichick<\/a>. He joins QB Conner Harrell<\/a> along with RBs Caleb Hood<\/a> and Jordan Louie<\/a>, IOL Zach Greenberg<\/a>, DL Travis Shaw<\/a>, CB Tyrane Stewart<\/a>, LB Amare Campbell<\/a>, LS Garrett Jordan<\/a>, and four offensive tackles in Jakiah Leftwich<\/a>, Andrew Rosinski<\/a>, Howard Sampson<\/a>, and Eli Sutton<\/a>. Four of those have since committed elsewhere in Greenberg (James Madison)<\/a><\/strong>, Leftwich (UCF)<\/a><\/strong>, Rosinski (Georgia Tech)<\/a><\/strong>, and Sampson<\/a> (Texas Tech)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ten players have then since joined UNC from the portal for the debut season under Belichick next fall. One was a quarterback in Ryan Browne<\/a> (Purdue)<\/a><\/strong> along with LB Khmori House<\/a> (Washington)<\/a><\/strong>, WR Aziah Johnson<\/a> (Michigan State)<\/a><\/strong>, TE Connor Cox<\/a> (South Carolina)<\/a><\/strong>, DLs Melkart Abou Jaoude<\/a> (Delaware)<\/a><\/strong> and C.J. Mims<\/a> (East Carolina)<\/a><\/strong>, and K Adam Samaha<\/a> (Michigan)<\/a><\/strong> along with three interior offensive linemen in Miles McVay<\/a> (Alabama)<\/a><\/strong>, Christo Kelly<\/a> (Holy Cross)<\/a><\/strong>, and Chad Lindberg<\/a> (Rice)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
