The Georgia Bulldogs<\/strong><\/a> got an extra bye week off for the College Football Playoff<\/a><\/strong> and were able to watch from home as Notre Dame<\/a><\/strong> moved on to become their next opponent. Still, even with that time off, the Bulldogs weren\u2019t able to get quarterback Carson Beck<\/a><\/strong> healthy.<\/p>\n

Now, with Beck likely out for the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame, ESPN personality Paul Finebaum shared just how concerned he is for Georgia without its starting quarterback.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can easily see them getting in trouble,\u201d Paul Finebaum said<\/a> on The Matt Barrie Show<\/em>. \u201cBut we overuse the word resilient. It\u2019s kind of the new catchphrase, but nobody\u2019s been more resilient than Georgia. This team really did have he most impossible schedule, and when you consider it, they had to play Texas<\/a><\/strong> twice, they were at Alabama<\/a><\/strong>, at Ole Miss<\/a><\/strong>, and had Tennessee<\/a><\/strong> at home. The fact they only had two losses is pretty remarkable. So, I like Georgia, a slight edge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without Carson Beck, Georgia is going to turn to Gunner Stockton<\/a><\/strong> at quarterback. A former four-star recruit in the Class of 2022<\/a>, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Stockton has years of time in the Georgia system. When called in for duty in the SEC Championship Game, he completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards and an interception.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to be worried about Gunner Stockton,\u201d Finebaum said. \u201cI can\u2019t tell you how many, \u2018Oh no, we\u2019re fine.\u2019 No, you\u2019re not. You lost \u2014 I don\u2019t think Carson Beck is related to Quinn Ewers<\/a><\/strong> but they\u2019ve had the same type of year. It\u2019s been all over the place. I think that\u2019s what some Georgia fans are gravitating to, but in talking to Kirby Smart Saturday morning on our show, he feels pretty confident.\u201d <\/p>\n

Beyond just the quarterback position, Finebaum believes that Georgia is in a good spot moving forward against Notre Dame and in the Playoff. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think he feels confident because [Trevor] Etienne<\/a><\/strong> is healthy,\u201d Finebaum said. \u201cThat\u2019s a big factor. He\u2019s not been healthy all year. He\u2019s a dynamic running back, which we haven\u2019t seen very much of\u2026and their defense with Jalon Walker<\/a><\/strong> and so many other pieces, they can hold up very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt Barrie, who Finebaum had been speaking to, added that both Notre Dame and Georgia have very similar styles. That makes Stockton replacing Beck a bit of a wild card to deal with. <\/p>\n

\u201cI find, stylistically, this game is going to be very, very similar in that Notre Dame, no bones about it, [Jeremiyah] Love<\/a><\/strong> and the other running back, [Jadarian Price]<\/a><\/strong>, they\u2019re going to line up. They\u2019re going to run the ball,\u201d Barrie said. \u201cThey\u2019re going to be physical. The defenses are physical. We don\u2019t expect much out of the quarterback but they can make the throw when they need to. Gunner\u2019s the Wild Card. Riley Leonard<\/a><\/strong> is proven. I think this has potential to be a phenomenal game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carson Beck suffered a UCL injury<\/a> at the end of the first half of the SEC Championship Game. Since then, Kirby Smart<\/a><\/strong> has shared that he and his family have been pursuing the best options for him moving forward. However, his status for the entirety of the Playoff is uncertain. <\/p>\n
