During his time at Texas A&M<\/a><\/strong>, Johnny Manziel<\/a><\/strong> regularly kept coaches up at night \u2014 including his own.<\/p>\n

The controversial former Heisman Trophy winner, whose once-promising football career was derailed by public struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues, has recently returned to the public eye following this year\u2019s release of Netflix\u2019s Untold: Johnny Football<\/em>. <\/p>\n

That includes a recent appearance on the Throwbacks<\/em> podcast<\/a> with former USC<\/a><\/strong> quarterback Matt Leinart<\/a><\/strong> and actor Jerry Ferrara<\/strong> of Entourage <\/em>fame, where he was asked about a potential future in coaching.<\/p>\n

And while the thought has certainly crossed his mind on occassion, coaching doesn\u2019t appear to be in Manziel\u2019s future any time soon, thanks in large part to advice from one of his former coaches.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, man. The college aspect, I think, would be fun, but then the recruiting trail and hitting that and doing that is like \u2026,\u201d Manziel said on this week\u2019s Throwbacks <\/em>podcast<\/a>. \u201cI talk to Kliff Kingsbury<\/a><\/strong> a lot, and I\u2019ve brought it up to him a couple of times, and he\u2019s like, \u2018Bro, enjoy f***ing time. \u2026 Enjoy your life.\u2019 I could see him when he was at Texas Tech, he was just like, \u2018this is a real grind.\u2019 \u2026 It\u2019s a different world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kingsbury was Manziel\u2019s offensive coordinator at Texas A&M<\/strong> during his Heisman Trophy-winning redshirt freshman season before a six-year stint as Texas Tech\u2019s head coach (2013-18). Kingsbury is currently in his first season as the Washington Commanders<\/strong>\u2018 offensive coordinator after spending a year as an offensive analyst at USC<\/strong> following his 2022 firing as the Arizona Cardinals<\/strong>\u2018 head coach.<\/p>\n

Johnny Manziel may have stayed longer at Texas A&M with NIL<\/h2>\n

Can you imagine\u00a0Johnny Manziel<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the NIL era of college football? Manziel himself can and he probably would\u2019ve stayed in the college game a little bit longer.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I think so, just because, I mean, you know, you get into your rookie contract if you\u2019re not taken\u00a0 high enough, I mean, you know, I could have stayed two more years in college and probably made what I made throughout the four years of your NFL deal for the most part,\u201d\u00a0Manziel said<\/a>. \u201cSo I think it would have given me the opportunity to still be at a place today and then like that, be able to make money and be able to, you know, still continue to go play the college football life. It\u2019s tough for me looking back, having left two years of eligibility on a table.\u201d<\/p>\n
