Hannah Hidalgo<\/a><\/strong> was the key for Notre Dame\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> 79-68 upset over UConn <\/strong><\/a>Thursday night. The sophomore has only improved since committing to the school and could be the key cog for a team that has national title hopes.<\/p>\n

She finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in the home victory for the No. 8 Fighting Irish. Notre Dame pulled away in the fourth quarter thanks to her energy.<\/p>\n

Wearing the emotions on her sleeve, Hidalgo doesn\u2019t mind bringing the noise each and every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know I\u2019m that energy piece for my team,\u201d Hidalgo said<\/a>. \u201cSo I try and bring it, not only for every game, but for every practice. Like what you guys see in the games is kind of what I\u2019m bringing for practice. So I know my team needs that, and I know they feed off of that. So I\u2019m trying to be consistent, bringing that energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Head coach Niele Ivey acknowledged Hidalgo was a great spark for their efforts. During this three-game winning streak, the Irish also knocked off No. 6 Texas<\/strong><\/a> in overtime.<\/p>\n

Hidalgo had 30 points, eight rebounds and four assists in that win.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s shown them what type of team we can be incapable of being,\u201d Ivey said. \u201cI always talk about them being elite all the time, and they understand what that looks like, feels like, going again in a stretch that we just went through such a tough stretch with Texas, with UConn, going to the Cayman Islands, like we knew this was going to be a tough stretch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019ve learned a lot in these last several weeks, but I\u2019m hoping that they took the lesson that when we play we play with heart, we play with discipline, we play with focus. We can be just as elite as everybody else in the country. So that\u2019s, I learned a lot from this group, and I\u2019m just really proud of again, their toughness and their resilience, because you know you know we had a tough stretch we came back and we got back to work, you know, they didn\u2019t hang their heads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hidalgo and Notre Dame are back in action Sunday against Eastern Michigan<\/strong><\/a> but don\u2019t play another ranked opponent until January 5th, traveling to North Carolina<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
