Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones has enjoyed what he\u2019s seen from the team and head coach Mike McCarthy<\/a><\/strong> lately. On Wednesday, Jones was asked about the job McCarthy has done after the team won two of the last three games. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s done outstanding. Our guys are playing hard,\u201d Jones said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.<\/em><\/a> \u201cHe\u2019s got them competing. That was a tough game the other night. Guys played hard. \u201cGuys are competing. Hats off to Mike. You look around the league sometimes and see a lot of teams that start like that and they\u2019re thinking about next year. But Mike has everybody focused on winning each and every game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Jones was then asked if the Cowboys had decided on Mike McCarthy\u2019s future. \u201cWe\u2019re talking about the next game,\u201d he said. Jones was then asked if there was ever a conversation about potentially looking at Bill Belichick as the Cowboys coach. Again, he said, \u201cLike I said, we\u2019re worried about the next game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the rough 2024 season, it would not be a surprise if McCarthy returns to the Cowboys next season. Injuries to key players such as Dak Prescott,<\/a><\/strong> Micah Parsons <\/a><\/strong>and DeMarvion Overshown<\/a><\/strong> have slowed the Cowboys down this year, and McCarthy led the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-5 seasons (2021-2023). That said, the Cowboys could do a reset, meaning that a new head coach would be put in place. <\/p>\n

\u201cYour coach seems like he\u2019s playing on his last contract and [I\u2019m] almost feeling helpless like I can\u2019t help him in this situation, especially a guy you believe in so much and you believe in being your head coach,\u201d Prescott told Yahoo Sports<\/a> earlier this month. \u00a0\u201cControl what I can control, help and support Mike to every extent that I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prescott added: \u201cI believe in him wholeheartedly. I don\u2019t want to necessarily get into the nuts and the screws of it all obviously, but I think he definitely deserves a chance \u2014 another contract and a chance to coach this team amongst more influence. \u2018On his terms\u2019 may be a good way to say it. But I wholeheartedly believe in him.\u201d<\/p>\n
