Penn State has numerous players up for college football\u2019s top honors. Many of the winners will be announced tonight on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football awards show. That headlines today\u2019s newsstand, which also covers other top topics of the day<\/p>\n
Hardware will be handed out during a live show that runs from 9 \u2013 11 p.m. ET tonight in Atlanta, Ga. The 34th installment <\/a>of the annual show will feature the announcement of 23 awards in addition to the Walter Camp All-American team. Here\u2019s a look at the Penn State players in the running for them and also who they are competing against:<\/p>\n Mackey Award: Tyler Warren<\/a><\/strong> is up against Bowling Green\u2019s Harold Fannin Jr.<\/a><\/strong>, and Michigan\u2019s Colston Loveland<\/a><\/strong> for the trophy given to the sport\u2019s top tight end. He is expected to win it.<\/p>\n Wuerffel Trophy: <\/strong>Penn State center Nick Dawkins<\/a><\/strong> is battling Dean Janikowski<\/a><\/strong> of Washington State Bednarik Award: <\/strong>The honor that goes to the nation\u2019s best defender is down to Lions\u2019 defensive end Abdul Carter<\/a><\/strong>, Colorado cornerback Travis Hunter<\/a><\/strong>, and Ohio State cornerback Caleb Downs<\/a><\/strong>. Hunter already beat out Warren for the Paul Hornung Award. It goes to the nation\u2019s most versatile player.<\/p>\n For what it\u2019s worth, Carter has already lost out on the Nagurski Trophy, which he was a finalist for.
