One of the most unexpected names on the coaching carousel so far came out on Wednesday with the reporting<\/a> of Bill Belichick<\/a>, the longtime coach of the New England Patriots, interviewing to become<\/a> the next head coach at North Carolina<\/a><\/strong>. However, Paul Finebaum thinks it\u2019s actually a great idea in college football<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finebaum gave his opinion on Belichick, whether at UNC or in the NCAA<\/a>, while on \u2018Get Up\u2019 on Friday. He says that he could see it working with a program like the Tar Heels\u2019 with what they\u2019d have available as an opportunity to Belichick.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could (see it),\u201d said Finebaum. \u201cChapel Hill is a very unique situation. The expectations aren\u2019t the same as Georgia<\/a><\/strong>, Texas<\/a><\/strong>, and Alabama<\/a><\/strong>. They have a great infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they\u2019re patient, I think he could turn that place around,\u201d Finebaum said. \u201cMack Brown<\/a> almost got over the hump, just couldn\u2019t quite<\/a>. Bill Belichick could easily do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finebaum also believes Belichick would be a great option for other college teams too, including future openings in the SEC. With how much the collegiate level has changed to look like the professionals, he doesn\u2019t think it would be too much of a difference for him in handling the jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could because, right now, as you know \u2013 and you\u2019ve got a former (general manager) sitting there. College football is very much like the NFL<\/a>. You have a general manager who manages all the player personnel, the salaries, the NIL<\/a>,\u201d Finebaum explained. \u201cBill could be the coach and he could also, you know, make sure the infrastructure is set.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belichick has been available since January after the end of a tenure that lasted almost a quarter century in New England. He was 387-266 (.687) in coaching the Patriots since 2000, including six wins out of nine total trips to the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

Since then, Belichick has been rumored for other coaching gigs while also working in the media.<\/p>\n

This would be quite the choice for Carolina for the Tar Heels\u2019 next head coach<\/a>. It\u2019d be a great one to Finebaum, though, considering how he thinks that Belichick could work out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he would be a home run hire for North Carolina \u2013 or anyone, frankly, in this part of the country,\u201d Finebaum stated.<\/p>\n
