The Minnesota Vikings (9-2) signed<\/a> quarterback Daniel Jones<\/a><\/strong> to their practice squad Wednesday, a move in which they hardly had to break the bank to pull off. <\/p>\n

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN<\/em><\/a>, Jones\u2019 one-year deal is valid through the remainder of the season and worth $375,000. Jones, who was granted his release from the New York Giants (2-9) this past Friday, remains scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season. <\/p>\n

With Jones going on Minnesota\u2019s practice squad, he can still sign with another team should a starting quarterback go down with an injury in the next three weeks, Schefter noted. Nick Mullens<\/a><\/strong> will continue to backup Sam Darnold<\/a><\/strong> as Jones presumably gets up to speed with head coach Kevin O\u2019Connell\u2019s offense. <\/p>\n

As of now, the only Vikings quarterback under contract for next season is J.J. McCarthy<\/a><\/strong>, the 2024 first round pick who suffered a season-ending meniscus injury in his right knee during his preseason debut. <\/p>\n

Vikings take a flier on Daniel Jones <\/h2>\n

O\u2019Connell, who evaluated Jones throughout the pre-draft process in 2019 while offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders (7-5), spoke highly of the 27-year-old Monday when asked the possibility of signing him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will say tons of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person,\u201d O\u2019Connell said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN<\/em><\/a>. \u201cGot to know him through the draft process years ago. I\u2019m sure now that he\u2019s a free agent and there\u2019s probably a ton of league-wide interest in him, Daniel is going to make the decision that is best for him and his career moving forward, and I\u2019m sure he\u2019s working through that process right now. <\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 I can just say that I\u2019ve been a big fan of Daniel\u2019s for a long time, and I hope wherever his next step takes him, it\u2019s a good opportunity for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones finished his Giants career with a 24-44-1 record and 70 touchdown passes to go along with 47 interceptions. New York will take on a $22.21 million dead cap hit in 2025.<\/p>\n
