You don\u2019t get to be as nationally prominent as Georgia is without having a roster that can compete.<\/p>\n<p>And competing these days is easiest accomplished by paying up for a quality roster.<\/p>\n<p>That creates some interesting NIL scenarios for players, and Smart laid things out in pretty simple terms on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re the breadwinner of their family in probably 50-60% of the cases on our team,\u201d he said. \u201cSo they\u2019re having to navigate financial situations where they\u2019re sending home money to their parents, supporting their brothers and sisters and doing all kinds of things at 18 and 19. That\u2019s uncharted territory for kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Does that give athletes in the NIL era more responsibilities that in eras past? It\u2019s certainly possible.<\/p>\n<p>Smart\u2019s goal is to lessen the burden on players by providing ample education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, it\u2019s an unintended consequence, but what\u2019s the alternative?\u201d Smart said. \u201cThat they don\u2019t support them and they don\u2019t get the money.
