Wesco seemed like a pretty obvious example of the former going back months now. – bowman93

At Inside Texas we pride ourselves on trying to keep people off a recruiting roller coaster that’s filled with highs, lows, accelerating turns, and abrupt stops. It can be hard to do at times because depending on the profile of the recruit, his fondness for the process, and who UT is combating for the commitment, recruiting can be inherently dramatic.

A big part of keeping people off the roller coaster is knowing who to prioritize in coverage. If we’re not spilling much ink on a recruit it’s likely because he’s not a realistic target, as was the case mentioned above. Of course we did mention the Midlothian receiver because he was a big priority for the Texas staff. But, for whatever reason, that interest wasn’t mutual. That’s recruiting, and certainly something most recruitniks have a lot of experience with.

I posed the above question to Justin and Gerry. I’ll also take a swing at it.

Justin Wells says:

Too much attention: Colin Simmons. This is a marathon and we’ve barely hit 13.1 miles. Simmons loves the attention and eats up every ounce of his popularity. Reading tea leaves here is an exercise in futility.

Not enough attention: Danny Okoye. The Tulsa native might be the best kept secret in the 2024 class. He combines size, strength, and an ever-revving motor that’s bound to make an early impact at the college level.

Gerry Hamilton says:

Too much attention: Micah Hudson. The ranking and the potential dual with Texas Tech has this recruitment amped up. Hudson is a terrific prospect, but he’s not a Roy Williams level prospect. With the portal being fruitful at wide receiver, it takes a very rare talent at the high school level to rise above what can come from the portal if a team misses. Alabama commit Ryan Williams and Dakorien Moore, I’m speaking of you two.

Not enough attention: Jayden Jackson of Brownsburg, In. and IMG Academy. The ranking has fans taking a peek, but not getting too excited. Not many defensive tackle prospects can pick out of Texas, Ohio State, Miami, Florida, and Oklahoma. That’s not a three-star, or three-star recruitment.

Eric Nahlin says: The problem with going last is others take the best options. I was going with Okoye, but Jackson is also a great selection.

Too much attention: Dominick McKinley. This is more in line with Justin’s take on Simmons than Gerry’s opinion of Hudson. McKinley is a major need but despite taking a handful of official visits this month, including Texas for the June 23-25 weekend, he’s not close to making a decision. It’ll be time to pay close attention if he returns to Austin for a game this Fall.

Not enough attention: Eugene Brooks. This one is understandable: He’s late to the radar, he’s from out-of-state, he’s listed as a guard, and he’s not highly rated. But he looks like a clear four-star prospect to me thanks to his mobility at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds. I’m also not ruling Brooks out from being a tackle. I think he would be a very good addition to a program already littered with promising young offensive linemen. Brooks will take his official visit to Texas next weekend. He is on an Oklahoma official visit right now.

The post Texas recruitments that require more attention appeared first on On3.

During last week’s Four-Down Territory Q&A we received a question that’s ideal for a more…

[1

post-7425","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
