Florida<\/a><\/strong> is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance, as well as a run to the SEC Tournament championship game, as it heads into its third year under head coach Todd Golden<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Expectations are sky high for the Gators, who checked in ranked No. 21 in the preseason AP Top 25. And so far Golden is very pleased with what he\u2019s seen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis group\u2019s been pretty good in our preparation,\u201d Golden said on Another Dooley Noted<\/a><\/em> podcast. \u201cI think you\u2019re always worried just making sure that you\u2019re doing everything you can to prepare your team the best you can. I feel like we\u2019ve had a good camp that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Florida should have some serious length at its disposal, with the additions of Washington State<\/a><\/strong> transfer Rueben Chinyelu<\/a><\/strong> and Chattanooga<\/a><\/strong> transfer Sam Alexis<\/a><\/strong> complementing returning bigs Alex Condon<\/a><\/strong> and Thomas Haugh<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The backcourt is stacked, with first-team All-SEC guard Walter Clayton Jr.<\/a><\/strong> leading the way.<\/p>\n

So Golden was asked what his chief concerns for his team are entering Year 3, and he outlined two areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had to pick a couple things it would be staying healthy, making sure that we stay upright,\u201d Golden said. \u201cI think if we\u2019re able to use our depth all year we\u2019ll be in good shape. I want to see improvement on the defensive side off the ball. It\u2019s an area that we\u2019ve emphasized quite a bit, all through summer and camp. And I do think we\u2019ll be better that way, but we\u2019ve got to go do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pieces are there.<\/p>\n

Guards Will Richard<\/a><\/strong> and Alijah Martin<\/a><\/strong> (a Florida Atlantic<\/a><\/strong> transfer) should help power the team\u2019s scoring and backcourt defense. Throw them in with the length the Gators have across the front line and Florida could be scary good defensively.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all Golden\u2019s really focused on right now ahead of the season opener against South Florida<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally those are the two main things,\u201d he said. \u201cI think if we can be sufficient in those areas we\u2019ll be in good shape.\u201d<\/p>\n
