Kentucky<\/a><\/strong> is 2-9 in its last 11 games against SEC opponents, including a run of six straight losses. After learning about this not-so-fun fact, former Florida<\/a><\/strong> head coach Steve Spurrier<\/strong> couldn\u2019t help but question what off-field issues are causing Kentucky to struggle in Kroger Field.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, gee,\u201d Spurrier said<\/strong><\/a> in an interview with the Courier-Journal<\/em>. \u201cMan, these guys might be sneaking out on Friday night going partying somewhere. I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on. Have they checked out what they\u2019re doing Friday nights or what? I don\u2019t know what they\u2019re doing at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Spurrier\u2019s comedic jabs, Kentucky\u2019s recent lackluster performances at home are puzzling. After steadily improving each season early in head coach Mark Stoops<\/a><\/strong>\u2018 tenure, Kentucky has seen a sharp decline in success since 2021.<\/p>\n

The Wildcats finished the 2022 and 2023 campaigns with a 7-5 record and are 3-3 this season. While Kentucky has undoubtedly missed talents such as Will Levis<\/a><\/strong>, Benny Snell<\/a><\/strong> or Lynn Bowden<\/a><\/strong>, there appears to be more to the Wildcats\u2019 recent string of shortcomings.<\/p>\n

Spurrier seemingly believes the team lacks focus. His belief isn\u2019t entirely unfounded. Kentucky has dealt with its fair share of off-field issues in the past few seasons. In 2021, six Kentucky players were charged with burglary.<\/p>\n

Further, the NCAA discovered at least 11 Kentucky football players received impermissible benefits for work not performed between spring 2021 and March 2022.\u00a0Consequently, the NCAA leveled a two-year probation and fine on Kentucky while forcing the program to vacate its 10 wins in 2021.<\/p>\n

No matter where the issues are stemming from, Stoops wants them fixed. Earlier this week, the 57-year-old head coach revealed his attitude toward the team\u2019s recent failures.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not so much finger pointing, but when I put it up on the screen and show it to the whole team, certain plays, certain mishaps and things that are done that are inexcusable, we need to find a reason why this happens,\u201d Stoop said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re grown. I don\u2019t anticipate anybody in here being sensitive because I\u2019m calling you out in front of the whole team,\u201d Stoops added. \u201cIt\u2019s not about pointing fingers, it\u2019s about finding a solution to why we\u2019re making the same mistakes and getting them corrected\u2026 If they can\u2019t handle that, then they can move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Kentucky will look to rebound from its loss to Vanderbilt<\/a><\/strong> as it squares off against Florida<\/a><\/strong> at 7:45 p.m. ET. The game will air live on the SEC Network.<\/p>\n
