A new player just hit the transfer portal and Kentucky has already expressed interest. According to Adam Zagoria<\/a>, Kentucky is one of four schools to reach out to Rutgers transfer Paul Mulcahy<\/a><\/strong>, along with Kansas State, Michigan, and West Virginia. The 6\u20197\u2033 213 lbs. guard announced this morning he will use his final season of eligibility elsewhere as a grad transfer. <\/p>\n

As a senior, Mulcahy averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.6 rebounds for the Scarlet Knights while shooting 41.6% from the field and 37.0% (20-54) from the outside. Over four years, he started 81 of 121 games, averaging 6.8 points, 4.9 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. <\/p>\n

Mulcahy suffered a shoulder injury in Rutgers\u2019 season opener vs. Columbia. He missed four games due to the injury but dealt with the pain throughout the season, averaging 6.5 points on 37.5% shooting in the final 11 games. By the end of the season, freshman Derek Simpson<\/a><\/strong> took over more of the lead guard role for the Scarlet Knights, who finished 19-15 and lost to Hofstra in the first round of the NIT.<\/p>\n

Kentucky doesn\u2019t exactly need another guard next season, but at 6\u20197\u2033, Mulcahy is big enough to play on the wing and is a decent shooter and excellent passer. With potentially eight freshmen and two sophomores, the Cats could use a veteran with four years of experience if he\u2019s willing to accept a backup role.<\/p>\n
