Urban Meyer<\/a><\/strong> never sold his stock on Colorado<\/strong><\/a> based on what he saw Deion Sanders<\/a><\/strong> and crew do during practice.<\/p>\n

He first visited the Buffaloes last season, Sanders\u2019 first year as head coach. He saw a real, well-coached football team. Now, Colorado started 3-0 and finished 4-8 last year, but the fruits of their labor seem to be coming out in 2024, now at 4-1 into a bye week.<\/p>\n

Meyer explained why he never backed off the Colorado train even going into this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I went last year to see them practice, because I know we had some games, and I just thought, do my job,\u201d Meyer said on The Triple Option<\/em><\/a>. \u201cThis is unchartered waters. I\u2019ve known Coach Prime for a long time. We\u2019ve been friends, and he invited me in. I went to meetings, I went to practice, and I texted you guys and called you guys and said, \u2018guys, this is not a 1-10 program, that they have good players, couple great players, and there\u2019s some substance behind what shows up in press conferences and all that.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I see him tearing into the players. I see the coaches coaching hard, which I think is a sign of a good program. It\u2019s not a huggy feeling at all there. They coach, and you\u2019re starting to see the rewards of the substance behind this stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colorado is also 2-0 in the Big 12 this year, the team\u2019s first year back in the conference. After the bye week this weekend, the Buffaloes will take on a top 20 ranked Kansas State squad.<\/p>\n

If they win in that spot, the hype will become deafening.<\/p>\n

Meyer could do without the glitz and glamor, but he certainly sees a rising football team.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I\u2019m not a big fan of the watches, I\u2019m not a big fan \u2026 It\u2019s almost uncomfortable for me seeing some of the stuff,\u201d Meyer said. \u201cAnd if I didn\u2019t go to watch the practice and see Prime coach and see the coaching staff and the players respond, I would have sold my stock on that a long time ago. If you noticed, I never sold my stock, even last year when they kind of fell apart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo there is substance behind it. I don\u2019t know \u2026 the number on wins, but I\u2019m telling you, there\u2019s substance behind that program.\u201d<\/p>\n
