NC State<\/a><\/strong> quarterback Grayson McCall<\/a><\/strong> will not play in Saturday\u2019s Week 5 game against Northern Illinois<\/a><\/strong>, a source told On3\u2019s Pete Nakos<\/a><\/strong>. He also missed last week\u2019s game against Clemson<\/a><\/strong> due to an injury.<\/p>\n

McCall got hurt in Week 3 against Louisiana Tech<\/a><\/strong> and missed the rest of the game as a result. That kept him out against Clemson as NC State suffered a resounding 59-35 loss to the Tigers. CJ Bailey<\/a><\/strong> and Lex Thomas<\/a><\/strong> both stepped in at quarterback in that game.<\/p>\n

McCall is in his first season at NC State after transferring from Coastal Carolina<\/a><\/strong>. Through just over two games under center, he has thrown for 476 yards and three touchdowns, along with two interceptions.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear the exact nature of McCall\u2019s injury. However, Dave Doeren<\/a><\/strong> said his quarterback is \u201cgetting better\u201d and \u201chas done a great job in what he\u2019s allowed to do right now\u201d during his radio show<\/a><\/strong> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

NC State LT Anthony Belton will not start vs. Northern Illinois<\/h2>\n

NC State enters Saturday\u2019s game with a 2-2 record as it wraps up the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Wolfpack will also be without left tackle Anthony Belton<\/a><\/strong> to start the game, Doeren said<\/a><\/strong>. He was ejected from last week\u2019s game after appearing to spit on a player and will not start as a result.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was really disappointed in Anthony Belton\u2019s response,\u201d Doeren\u00a0said Monday, via The Wolfpacker\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> Noah Fleischman<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cThings happen on the pile and all kinds of things happen. We all know as players, and Anthony knows, the guy that retaliates is always the one that gets penalized. A tough lesson for him. He put strain on our team and got ejected for the game for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what happened and ultimately led to Belton\u2019s ejection, ABC\u2019s Molly McGrath<\/strong> shared her perspective<\/a><\/strong>. She saw Belton attempting to protect Bailey after a Clemson player appeared to step on his helmet, and she didn\u2019t know if the referees saw that action.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was standing right behind that play and I could see an orange cleat from Clemson stomp down on CJ Bailey\u2019s head and then Anthony Belton trying to protect his quarterback and went after the Clemson players after the fact,\u201d McGrath said. \u201cI don\u2019t think the officials saw the stepping on CJ Bailey\u2019s helmet.\u201d<\/p>\n
