The Texas Longhorns have been without starting quarterback Quinn Ewers<\/a><\/strong> since he suffered an abdominal injury against UTSA. Now, head coach Steve Sarkisian has revealed the latest status on his star.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Texas\u2019 first SEC game against Mississippi State, Sarkisian shared that Ewers is improving and explained that he doesn\u2019t want to hide anything about the injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cImproved, but we\u2019re not trying to pull the wool over anybody\u2019s eyes,\u201d Steve Sarkisian said<\/a>. \u201cAnd Trey Owens had his best week of practice.\u201d<\/p>\n

In place of Quinn Ewers, Texas started Arch Manning against ULM. A sophomore, Manning came into college as one of the most highly-anticipated recruits that college football has seen, joining the Longhorns as a five-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. In that first start, he threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns but he also had two interceptions.<\/p>\n

For now, Sarkisian still hasn\u2019t made a decision as to who is going to start this weekend against Mississippi State. However, he did set a deadline of Friday for that choice. So, it won\u2019t be long before everyone does know who\u2019ll be under center.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt won\u2019t be a secret,\u201d Sarkisian said<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re not trying to pull the wool over anybody\u2019s eyes. Just want to give Quinn every opportunity to see if he\u2019s ready to play and what he looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n
