Michigan Wolverines football<\/a> <\/strong>head coach Sherrone Moore<\/a> <\/strong>met with the media Monday afternoon ahead of his team\u2019s game against Minnesota. Here are bullet points on the most notable things he said.<\/p>\n

Sherrone Moore quick-hitters<\/h2>\n

\u2022\u00a0Michigan junior quarterback Alex Orji<\/a><\/strong> made his first career start in a 27-24 win over USC last week and will get the nod again versus Minnesota. Moore said there\u2019s more to his game and the offense that will be shown in the games ahead. He was pleased that Orji took care of the football.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Orji was \u201cthe same Alex\u201d when he found out he wasn\u2019t the starter at the end of fall camp heading into the opener, which has allowed for a smooth transition to him taking over starting duties.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Junior tight end Colston Loveland<\/a><\/strong> missed Saturday\u2019s game against the Trojans. He was \u201cclose\u201d to playing and \u201cdoing a lot better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Moore credited \u201cmom and dad and The Man upstairs\u201d for junior cornerback Will Johnson<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s performances. He praised his hard work and said that defensive coordinator Wink Martindale<\/a><\/strong> predicted he would get an interception before Johnson\u2019s pick-six versus USC. <\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Moore said the pass protection has been \u201cgood\u201d but has to \u201ccontinue to improve.\u201d He said, in fact, that it is \u201cimproving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Moore doesn\u2019t know what the exact split will be for practice reps at quarterback between Orji and the backups, but said he will find the right balance so that Orji gets the amount of snaps he needs and the backups are also ready.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Senior quarterback Davis Warren<\/a><\/strong> has been \u201cstudying the same\u201d as he was when he was the starter, remaining positive.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0The Michigan offensive line played its \u201cbest game\u201d of the season against USC, paving the way for 290 rushing yards. Moore mentioned that both graduate running back Kalel Mullings<\/a><\/strong> and senior Donovan Edwards<\/a><\/strong> played well, and that the offensive line gave them 3 yards before contact per carry, the highest of the season.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Moore is confident that Michigan can win games even when the \u201cscript\u201d doesn\u2019t play out the way it did against USC, with the Wolverines getting an early lead and clinging to it, with the help of a defensive touchdown.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Moore wouldn\u2019t commit to Mullings being the starting running back but said he earned the right to \u201cbe in that conversation.\u201d He said it will be something discussed within the offense (not for public consumption).<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Michigan sophomore right tackle Evan Link<\/a><\/strong> is \u201csteadily getting better.\u201d Moore mentioned that he only played in four games last season and is just four outings into being a starter. He said He has \u201csize\u201d and \u201ctalent\u201d and will continue to gain confidence.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Senior fullback \/ tight end Max Bredeson<\/a><\/strong> is the \u201cultimate thumper and tone-setter.\u201d Last season, Bredeson became the \u201cguy that he is now.\u201d This spring, though, Moore realized that Bredeson \u201chas something different,\u201d which has allowed his role to grow. <\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Senior EDGE Josaiah Stewart<\/a><\/strong> is a \u201cgame-wrecker.\u201d Moore said he\u2019s glad he wasn\u2019t USC\u2019s left tackles (they had to make a change at that position at halftime, due in large part to Stewart\u2019s effectiveness).<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Junior defensive tackle Mason Graham<\/a><\/strong> \u201cplayed his best game, for sure,\u201d against USC. He was \u201cdetailed, powerful and strong.\u201d He \u201clooked dominant in there,\u201d and Moore mentioned that junior defensive tackle Kenneth Grant<\/a><\/strong> and junior EDGE Derrick Moore<\/a><\/strong> were the same. <\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Moore gave the \u201cultimate shoutout\u201d to Michigan\u2019s wide receivers, who blocked well in the run game against USC. He said all the group cares about is doing what it takes to win.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0The next step for Orji is to continue to gain confidence from start to start.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Michigan sophomore cornerback Jyaire Hill<\/a><\/strong> \u201cplayed a heck of a game\u201d against USC, making some \u201ccompetitive plays and competitive hits.\u201d Moore said Hill has been in Johnson\u2019s hip pocket, following his lead, and he\u2019s better off for it.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0On USC\u2019s touchdown pass to Jay Fair <\/strong>was a miscommunication on a pressure. Michigan was supposed to have someone in coverage there. The one to Ja\u2019Kobi Lane <\/strong>\u2014\u00a0graduate safety Makari Paige<\/a><\/strong> came over too slow.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Minnesota teams under head coach P.J. Fleck<\/a> <\/strong>are \u201ctough, physical and disciplined.\u201d They like to play \u201cball control\u201d offense and \u201csmart defense.\u201d Moore said they will try to \u201cmake you make a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n
