Syracuse<\/a><\/strong> quarterback Kyle McCord<\/a><\/strong> capped off a 20-yard touchdown scramble in the third quarter against Stanford<\/a><\/strong> on Friday night with an acrobatic leap over the defenders at the goal line. And it caught the eyes of plenty of folks \u2014\u00a0and beyond those in The JMA Wireless Dome.<\/p>\n

One of McCord\u2019s former teammates at Ohio State<\/a><\/strong> \u2014\u00a0where he played before transferring to Syracuse \u2014\u00a0Marvin Harrison Jr.<\/a><\/strong> took note. And taking to social media, Harrison had a little joking fun at the expense of McCord following his highlight-reel score.<\/p>\n

And while it might\u2019ve been a highlight rushing touchdown capped with an unexpected leap for McCord, the quarterback was pretty ho-hum, spinning the ball and running down the sideline to celebrate with his teammates as the Orange cut the Cardinal lead to 20-17.<\/p>\n

McCord\u2019s success has been noticed by others at Ohio State<\/h2>\n

Ohio State\u2019s 2024 starting quarterback,\u00a0Will Howard<\/strong><\/a>, transferred into the program. Ohio State\u2019s 2023 starting quarterback, McCord, transferred out of the program.<\/p>\n

Both are off to impressive starts this season.<\/p>\n

Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day was asked Tuesday about McCord\u2019s early success at Syracuse.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve only seen a few highlights, and it looks like he\u2019s doing a great job,\u201d Day said. \u201cIt looks like the first couple games, he\u2019s gotten a good rhythm and got a great win this past weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so, you know, happy to see him doing well so far this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCord entered the portal following his only loss as Ohio State\u2019s starting quarterback, a heartbreaking 30-24 defeat to eventual national champion Michigan. He threw two picks in that top-three showdown, including a game-ender that halted a potential game-winning drive in the final minute of play.<\/p>\n

That said, McCord posted a 12-1 record as the Buckeyes\u2019 starter, even picking up a win as a true freshman when he filled in for an injured\u00a0C.J. Stroud<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0against Akron in 2021.<\/p>\n

Last season, McCord registered a 24:6 touchdown-to-interception ratio while piling up 3,170 passing yards and completing 65.8% of his attempts. He capitalized on having his former St. Joe\u2019s Prep teammate, Harrison Jr., at wide receiver. Harrison was McCord\u2019s go-to target and wound up both winning the Biletnikoff Award and becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist.<\/p>\n
