Penn State news, notes and updates for Sept. 19 include the latest Lions updates before Kent State, headlines of the day, and more. It\u2019s time to dive into Thursday\u2019s top tweets and stories about head coach James Franklin\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> team and college athletics. <\/p>\n

Penn State tweets of the day<\/h2>\n

We start with a recap of what we learned on Wednesday. Head coach James Franklin held his final news conference of Kent State<\/a><\/strong> week. The Nittany Lions host the Golden Flashes at 3:30 p.m. Satuday inside of Beaver Stadium. The big takeaway of the evening is that safety KJ Winston Jr.,<\/a><\/strong> is dealing with a long-term injury. What the setback is and how long he could be out for were not disclosed. Freshman safety Dejuan Lane<\/a><\/strong> will have a bigger role behind starters Jaylen Reed<\/a><\/strong> and Zakee Wheatley<\/a><\/strong> moving forward. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it impacts leadership a whole lot, because he\u2019s still going to be heavily involved there, and I think we\u2019ve talked a decent amount about Dae Dae Lane, so that\u2019ll have a huge impact on him and the reps that he\u2019s getting and where he\u2019s at, and then we\u2019re trying to kind of figure out that next guy right now,\u201d Franklin said. \u201cSo there\u2019s a ton of guys that are going to get some opportunities. But we have not figured that out yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a different injury note, redshirt freshman Ta\u2019Mere Robinson<\/a><\/strong> is dealing with just a short-term issue. He was hurt in Week 1. Then, he missed the Lions\u2019 Week 2 contest. However, he was at practice Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cTay had some bumps and bruises,\u201d Franklin said. \u201cMissed some time. We need him. He was really doing well, so to be able to get him back is helpful at a position where we\u2019re trying to develop some more depth right now. So it\u2019s great having him back out at practice, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
