Colorado<\/a><\/strong> quarterback Shedeur Sanders<\/a><\/strong> partially walked back some comments he made in the wake of a 28-10 loss to Nebraska<\/a><\/strong> on Saturday, while also attributing some of the subsequent scrutiny to people \u2018making stories up.\u2019<\/p>\n

Sanders took to his 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders<\/em> podcast to clear the air a bit after the game.<\/p>\n

The primary comment in question was his explanation of a pick-six early in the game that proved rather costly for the Buffaloes. After the game, Sanders appeared to place some of the blame for the miscue on freshman receiver Dre\u2019lon Miller<\/a><\/strong>, calling it \u201ca rookie mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they just took it and ran with it,\u201d Sanders said on his podcast. \u201cBecause I remember saying it was a rookie mistake. I didn\u2019t say the rookie made a mistake, you know? So I\u2019m saying it\u2019s like a rookie mistake, that\u2019s childish, I should have never done that. But I\u2019m not going to go on social media and go argue with them fans about that. That just what it it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments drew immediate scrutiny from college football fans around the world, as it appeared to be Shedeur Sanders at least partially deflecting blame for the costly mistake.<\/p>\n

As it turns out, Sanders believes his comments weren\u2019t all that untoward, though he himself admitted he shouldn\u2019t have said it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThankful to have a platform to where I\u2019m really able to express and say what was actually said, rather than people just making up stories and just doing anything just to kind of divide the team,\u201d Sanders said.<\/p>\n

He did take ownership of the comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI put that on myself also, because it\u2019s like I gave them room to where I could understand they took it like that,\u201d Shedeur Sanders said. \u201cBut that wasn\u2019t the intention of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

His podcast co-host then asked the pertinent and obvious follow-up question: Is there damage control you have to do now in the locker room to make sure everyone remains on the same page?<\/p>\n

\u201cNot really, not really, because I feel like all the players know your intentions and they know you wouldn\u2019t do anything crazy like that,\u201d Shedeur Sanders said. \u201cThey\u2019re going to take my words and say it however they want to, but at the end of the day the players know everything\u2019s genuine. And I know what I said genuinely, so it is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n
