The Fighting Irish suffered the most shocking upset of the young season so far in Week 2. Northern Illinois<\/a><\/strong> came in to South Bend and stunned Notre Dame 16-14 on a field goal in the final seconds. The Huskies received $1.4 million from the Fighting Irish to play the game.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame was fresh off a huge victory over Texas A&M<\/a><\/strong> on the road last week, which adds to the shocking nature of the upset. After NIU hit the go-ahead field goal, Riley Leonard<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0tried to lead the Fighting Irish on a game-winning drive, and they got to the NIU 44-yard line with nine seconds left.<\/p>\n

But once again,\u00a0Mitch Jeter\u2019s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0field goal attempt was blocked \u2013 and the upset was complete. Now, Notre Dame has to get ready to head to West Lafayette to take on Purdue.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always said, performance is a reflection of preparation. We\u2019ve got to figure out where we failed in preparation.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve got to get it fixed and get back to playing football the way we know how to play, we\u2019ve played before. We can and we will.\u201d<\/p>\n
