We start with a review of last night\u2019s media availability. The top takeaway is that, while Penn State hopes to have tight end Khalil Dinkins back this week, it is not yet sure whether or not he will be ready to return to game action after missing time both during preseason camp and at West Virginia last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s still the issue, he\u2019s missed a ton of time, both mentally and physically,\u201d Franklin said. \u201cSo, we have to knock the rust off. We\u2019ll see. If he\u2019s ready, as you guys have seen, he can be a weapon for us. But, if not, we have some guys like you\u2019ve seen with Luke and others that we think can fill that role. Ideally, we\u2019d love to have him back, so, specifically with Luke, we can save some of those games.\u201d<\/p>\n

Franklin will speak on the Penn State Coaches Show tonight. That will mark his final chat with the media before kickoff on Saturday. It\u2019s set for Noon ET on Big Ten Network.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the challenge is, if I remember correctly, he was not a mid-semester guy. I think if he could have been here in the spring, he\u2019d be so much further ahead right now. But when you\u2019re talking about us creating that depth that we talk about, having at least a two and a half deep, we got to get somebody to step up into that fifth safety role, especially with us playing so much three safeties on the field. So, his development as well as other guys, is important. <\/p>\n
