Plenty of players for the Crimson Tide got to see the field in Alabama<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s dominant 63-0 win over Western Kentucky<\/a><\/strong> to open up the college football seasons. But the most exciting may have been true freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Williams only had two catches on the day, but both were for touchdowns as he also racked up a team-leading 139 yards against the Hill Toppers. Serving as a major sign of positivity for Alabama\u2019s offense in the eyes of college football analyst Joel Klatt. <\/p>\n

\u201cRyan Williams, if he is this good, than Kalen DeBoer<\/a><\/strong> has answers at wide receiver for the Tide,\u201d Klatt said on his show Wednesday<\/a>. \u201cWhich is not what they\u2019ve had in the last two years.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were to ask me what has been the biggest difference between Alabama\u2019s teams the last two years and the ones previous to that, and in particular when you get to that 2020,\u201919, \u201918, you can go all the way back to like Julio Jones<\/a><\/strong>, Amari Cooper<\/a><\/strong>, Jerry Jeudy<\/a><\/strong>, Jaylen Waddle<\/a><\/strong>, DeVonta Smith<\/a><\/strong>, Jameson Williams<\/a><\/strong> out there. And they haven\u2019t had that in the last couple of years, they just have not.\u201d <\/p>\n

Alabama has not had a 1,000-yard wide receiver in the past two seasons following five-straight years with a wideout reaching the milestone. With Williams potentially representing the next in line that could take the Alabama offense to another level with their mastermind of a head coach. <\/p>\n

\u201cNow if Ryan Williams becomes Him, if you will, then all of a sudden they are back in that mold and they have an elite playmaker on the outside. And now they have it not some random offensive coordinator, I know all those guys didn\u2019t have random offense coordinators. You had [Lane] Kiffin<\/a><\/strong> in there, you had Sark [Steve Sarkisian<\/a><\/strong>] in there. But now you\u2019ve got Kalen DeBoer,\u201d Klatt said. <\/p>\n

Elite wide receiver play helped DeBoer lead Washington<\/a><\/strong> to breakout success in the last two college football seasons when he was the head coach of the Huskies. Including an unexpected trip to last year\u2019s national championship game. <\/p>\n

\u201cThink Rome Odunze, look at what DeBoer does with elite wide receivers. He just took Washington and went to the national championship game. I know [Michael] Penix<\/a><\/strong> was outstanding, but a lot of that was the fact that he had great, elite wide receiver play,\u201d Klatt explained. \u201cSo if Ryan Williams is an elite player on the outside, watch out for Alabama because Kalen DeBoer specifically knows what to do with a room like that. <\/p>\n

\u201cRyan Williams could grow into that, he could be DeBoer\u2019s new Odunze and that\u2019s scary for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no question Williams showed he has a high- ceiling on Saturday, making himself a surefire player to watch for the Crimson Tide who could make a major impact in his first collegiate season. <\/p>\n
