ESPN College GameDay<\/em> has taken on a new look in 2024, with former Alabama<\/a><\/strong> coach Nick Saban<\/a><\/strong> taking a spot on the desk with the rest of the crew. And Dabo Swinney<\/a><\/strong> had a suggestion for how GameDay could improve on Saturday.<\/p>\n

During a call-in segment from the field in Atlanta, Swinney went into some pertinent advice for the flagship college football program.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ve got one suggestion for GameDay that I think could take y\u2019all to new levels,\u201d Swinney said, building some suspense. \u201cIt\u2019s going to take coach Saban a little while to settle in, but he\u2019s a natural. Y\u2019all know that. He\u2019s already made y\u2019all better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saban has indeed made the set better, bringing a unique angle for insight as a recently retired coach. He\u2019s hit on NIL, the transfer portal<\/strong><\/a> and some other changes to the sport, cluing fans in on the inner workings.<\/p>\n

But is there more Saban could be doing? Swinney thinks so and said as much on ESPN College Gameday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf y\u2019all can at some point during the year get him on set with a Pat McAfee<\/strong> tank top side by side, then it\u2019s over,\u201d Swinney said with a huge grin. \u201cIt\u2019s over. That\u2019s the only thing. He\u2019ll get there. He\u2019ll get there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clemson working on red zone, turnovers<\/h2>\n

One of the insights Saban provided on ESPN College GameDay on Saturday morning was into why Clemson had such a tough year in 2023.<\/p>\n

The Tigers turned it over a lot and were poor in the red zone. Not exactly a recipe for success. But Swinney said his team has worked on those things quite a bit, and he\u2019s confident they\u2019ll be ready perform better in the season opener against No. 1 Georgia<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve worked really hard on it and you\u2019re exactly right, when we\u2019ve been a great team around here we\u2019ve held out in the red zone,\u201d Swinney said. \u201cThen we finished in the red zone offensively, and we were really poor at that last year. We were 15th in first downs, so yeah we got a lot of yards, a lot of first downs. We were like 120th in red zone scoring. Turnovers, missed kicks, blocked kicks, missed assignments. So we\u2019ve got to be better.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we\u2019re going to finish like we want to finish that is where you have to ultimately finish, and that\u2019s in the red zone. We feel good about our preparation. Obviously we\u2019ve got a great, great opponent today, not a lot of room for error, but we\u2019re ready for the challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clemson and Georgia will kick off at noon ET on ABC.<\/p>\n
