TNT<\/em>\u2018s \u201cInside the NBA<\/a>\u201d crew of Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O\u2019Neal are a close bunch, having broadcasted alongside each other since 2011. <\/p>\n

The quartet have cemented themselves as the gold standard of NBA pregame and postgame shows, with their personalties and chemistry leading the way. Making an appearance this week on the \u201cDan Le Batard Show with Stugotz<\/a>,\u201d Johnson explained in detail what makes the show work so well. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe love each other, truly\u2026I grew up with two older sisters and this is as close as I\u2019ll ever come to having brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody tries to make themselves the show,\u201d\u00a0Johnson said, via Awful Announcing<\/a><\/em>. \u201cThey\u2019ve never tried to make the show about themselves. I\u2019m in the fortunate position of getting us from point A to point B to point C with three guys who have been in every conceivable situation in a basketball game.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo nobody cares at home what I think about what might be being said in the huddle with 1.7 seconds to go. They want to hear from the guys who have been there. So it\u2019s up to me to try to bring out the best in these three guys. Knowing your role is vital. If you try to stray outside your lane and be something you aren\u2019t, then it doesn\u2019t work. The fact that we don\u2019t rehearse and the fact that we just let\u2019r rip \u2013 there you go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson continued, saying the four share a brother-like bond. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I would do the same for them. We all would,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThat\u2019s what comes with years of being together. We love each other. Truly. I grew up with two older sisters and this is as close as I\u2019ll ever come to having brothers. And that\u2019s what they are to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ernie Johnson has unbreakable bond with \u2018Inside the NBA\u2019 crew<\/h2>\n

Johnson later shared a story of an edition of \u201cInside the NBA\u201d which aired in the aftermath of Kobe Bryant\u2019s sudden passing in January 2020. <\/p>\n

\u201cI remember Shaq on that night saying on the air that, \u2018I don\u2019t say this enough to you guys, but I love you.\u2019 And we do. I think one thing that whole moment of time taught all of us was that you don\u2019t know how long you have,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cIt behooves us to make sure that everything\u2019s cool between us. Not just between the four of us on the show, but between everybody in your life. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat if the unthinkable happens, do you want to leave that with, \u2018Man I wish I had said this. I wish that silly feud, I could have stepped up and defused it. I wish I could have said this.\u2019 And I think it was a pretty brutal reminder of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
