Will Howard<\/a><\/strong> is reportedly a changed man at Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s fall camp. On Friday, Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith<\/a><\/strong> revealed how Howard has transformed since the Buckeyes\u2019 spring training.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe definitely made a big jump from in the spring,\u201d Smith said<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cI like his confidence. He\u2019s starting to talk more. Talk a lot of mess on the field and I like that about my quarterback. I love quarterbacks who like to talk and just get around his players and make them feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even without the offseason improvement, Howard is an exceptional talent. Howard touted a 14-11 record in 25 career starts at\u00a0Kansas State<\/a><\/strong>. His best season came last year when he notched 2,643 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing a career-high 61.3% of his passes.<\/p>\n

He boasts 5,786 passing yards, 48 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in his career. In his first season with the Buckeyes, Howard hopes to add to his totals. With receivers like Smith out wide, Howard will have no shortage of talent to target.<\/p>\n

Smith was the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to\u00a0On3 Industry Rankings<\/a><\/strong>. Additionally, he was named the Florida Player of the Year by MaxPreps. In 14 games as a senior, Smith erupted for 88 receptions for 1,376 yards and 19 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Will Howard locked in battle for starting spot<\/h2>\n

Although Howard has made offseason improvements, he won\u2019t be handed the starting spot behind center. Along with Howard, Ohio State has redshirt sophomore\u00a0Devin Brown<\/a><\/strong>, who was a former five-star prospect.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the team added freshman five-star recruit\u00a0Julian Sayin<\/a>\u00a0and first-year four-star\u00a0Air Noland<\/a><\/strong> this offseason. Ohio State\u2019s QB unit also still includes second-year talent\u00a0Lincoln Kienholz<\/a><\/strong>, who received significant minutes in the Buckeyes\u2019 loss against\u00a0Missouri<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the Cotton Bowl.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day<\/a><\/strong> revealed the current state of the Buckeyes\u2019 quarterback battle.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been mixing it up a little bit but you\u2019re starting to see\u00a0[Howard]\u00a0and\u00a0Devin\u00a0get a little bit more of the lion\u2019s share of the reps with the ones,\u201d Day said. \u201c[Howard] has taken command of the huddle, at the line of scrimmage\u2026 He\u2019s much more confident out there.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill really has taken some strides here in the last couple practices. Taken control of the offense, making plays on third down,\u201d Day added. \u201cAgain, [he] hasn\u2019t won the job but we have seen some positive play there.\u201d<\/p>\n
