Miami<\/a><\/strong> is still fighting to climb into the picture for 2024 recruits, including Deerfield Beach (Fla.) four-star linebacker Elias Rudolph.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hurricanes offered Rudolph earlier this week after the No. 287 overall prospect impressed Miami\u2019s coaching staff during the spring, and he said he was excited to receive the offer. However, Miami has its work cut out in Rudolph\u2019s recruitment despite his excitement about the Canes.<\/p>\n

Rudolph recently announced a top five of\u00a0Cincinnati<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Michigan<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Penn State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Pittsburgh<\/a><\/strong> but isn\u2019t writing off the Hurricanes. Michigan leads heavily in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine ahead of Ohio State, Penn State and Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a surreal feeling,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cI was excited to know that coach was watching me and was excited about my performance. It just made me feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rudolph said he\u2019s spoken to several coaches on Miami\u2019s staff \u201cevery day\u201d since he received the offer and the staff is working to climb into the picture. The Hurricanes are recruiting Rudolph at the JACK position, a hybrid linebacker and EDGE position.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey know I dropped my top five, so they\u2019re just trying to pick my brain and find out if they still have a shot to land me,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cThey\u2019re just thrilled with who I am, so they\u2019ve been on me.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what does the 6-foot-3, 200 pound linebacker tell Miami\u2019s staff when he talks to them?<\/p>\n

\u201cI tell them I\u2019m open-minded,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cShoot your shot. Shoot your shot. I\u2019m willing to keep my eyes open to every door that opens. I\u2019m just telling them it\u2019s possible. Don\u2019t give up but I am looking to commit early, so time is getting short.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stresses it\u2019s not too late for the Hurricanes. He added Miami co-defensive line coach Jason Taylor<\/a><\/strong> has played a substantial role in his Miami interest and has \u201ca lot of respect\u201d for the Hurricanes\u2019 staff.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled with their coaching staff,\u201d Rudolph said. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled with their facilities, and I did visit in January. I don\u2019t know how to answer what it takes for me to get there, but I guess we\u2019ll see since I gave them the open layup.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rudolph is hoping to commit sometime in July after he takes his official visits. <\/p>\n

The Hurricanes are going to have to make an all-hands-on-deck push to have any chance at landing the top-300 prospect as midwestern programs threaten to pull away. We\u2019ll monitor to see if Miami brings him to campus for an official visit.<\/p>\n
