So much of LaNorris Sellers\u2019<\/a><\/strong> freshman year at South Carolina was about getting his feet wet and adapting to the college game. As he prepares for his second season, the redshirt sophomore quarterback is a lot more ready for what\u2019s ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lot easier,\u201d Sellers said. \u201cLast year, I was pretty much just learning the system. This year, I actually understand the system. I can go out there, execute it, do it, communicate better, know what everybody else is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through four practices, South Carolina\u2019s offense still has a ways to go before the season opener on Aug. 31. But from Sellers\u2019 perspective, as one of the leaders on offense, there\u2019s been a lot of good signs in the early going.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re fast learners \u2014 everybody\u2019s pretty much grasped the system faster,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been going over it for a while, so we\u2019ve just got to go out there and execute. We\u2019re doing that a lot better.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far, Sellers\u2019 teammates have all spoken highly of him as a player and person. He\u2019s received much praise from a handful of his teammates, even newer ones like transfer wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs<\/a><\/strong>, who haven\u2019t been around him that long.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaNorris is a stud, for sure,\u201d Jacobs said. \u201cI feel like LaNorris can make any throw, I feel like he can make any read. He\u2019s just that X-Caliber quarterback, stud quarterback. So it\u2019s just a pleasure and a privilege playing with him, and he\u2019s going to make me better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Intertwined with working with the offense, Sellers is also in the heat of a quarterback battle. Despite many calling for it, South Carolina hasn\u2019t named him as the starter yet. Right now, him and Robby Ashford<\/a><\/strong> have been working in practice competing for that role. <\/p>\n

While it may seem like the two are pinned up against each other in this battle, that couldn\u2019t be further from the truth. Sellers called it a \u201chealthy competition\u201d with both quarterbacks bringing different skills and qualities to the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has college experience, I\u2019ve been taking that from him. I have knowledge of the system, and he\u2019s taking that from me,\u201d Sellers said. \u201cSo we\u2019ve still got to go out there and do it and compete and just lift each other up when stuff goes bad, and then just help each other out.\u201d<\/p>\n

As camp goes on, South Carolina will grow closer to naming a starter under center for Week One. It may feel like it\u2019s Sellers\u2019 job to lose since he\u2019s already been in this offense for a year with a high ceiling. But even a player as good as him still knows he has things to work on. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d say knowledge and communication is the two biggest things I\u2019ve improved on since last year,\u201d Sellers said. \u201cSomething I can work on is probably just the smaller things, the fundamentals of it, staying calm in the pocket, just keep going through my progression and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
