Carolina Panthers rookie tight end Ja\u2019Tavion Sanders <\/a><\/strong>seems to enjoy playing with quarterback Bryce Young<\/a><\/strong>. While talking to the media on Monday,<\/a> the former Texas Longhorns <\/a>star opened up about his relationship with Young ahead of the 2024 season. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been going good. Since I\u2019ve been taking reps with the [first team offense], me and him starting to get real closer,\u201d Sanders said about the former Alabama Crimson Tide star.<\/a> \u201cI think we\u2019re building something special here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanders, 21, was selected by the Panthers in the fourth round of this year\u2019s draft. He joins the Panthers after being named to the All-Big 12 First Team in his last two seasons at Texas. Sanders played tight end at Texas but can be used as a wide receiver if needed. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was a receiver in high school so I\u2019m kind of advanced as far as my receiving goes. And I feel like the tight ends in this draft class, we\u2019re the new age tight ends,\u201d Sanders said in April, per the Panthers\u2019 official website<\/a>. \u201d Guys like (Travis) Kelce<\/a><\/strong> and (Geroge) Kittle <\/a><\/strong>and (T.J.) Hockinson<\/a><\/strong>, they\u2019re the guys who started the new tight end age, but guys like me and Brock (Bowers)<\/a><\/strong>, Cade (Stover)<\/a><\/strong> and Jared Wiley<\/a><\/strong>, guys like that, we\u2019re the new age tight ends, that bring more the receiving ability to the tight end position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanders has been working with the first-time offense since other tight ends on the roster have been dealing with injuries. Panthers head coach Dave Canales<\/a><\/strong> has enjoyed watching Sanders\u2019 growth during camp.<\/p>\n

Ja\u2019Tavion Sanders \u2018making the most of his opportunity\u2019<\/h2>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exponential growth, every day,\u201d Canales said on Saturday, per Panthers Wire<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWhat I\u2019ve seen him do is just kinda really take big leaps in the techniques. And you\u2019ll see that with young guys. You\u2019ll see big leaps, and then you wanna get them to the point where it\u2019s consistent. And then we take our incremental growth\u2014just like some of the veteran guys who have been around.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo JT is taking those steps that we\u2019re looking for. Made a big play at Fan Fest to end it, to end the scrimmage on a corner. Had a couple nice plays today, nice catches. He\u2019s doin\u2019 it. He\u2019s making the most of his opportunity. It\u2019s pushed him right up with that first group, to be able to show the guys you can count on him and he\u2019s been really dependable with that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
