Dylan Raiola<\/a><\/strong> drew comparisons to Patrick Mahomes<\/a><\/strong> after arriving at Nebraska<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s fall camp with a new look<\/a><\/strong>. The freshman quarterback even wears No. 15 like the Kansas City Chiefs\u2019 superstar. However, on Friday, Raiola revealed Mahomes isn\u2019t the reason he wears No. 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wore 15 in my first year of football actually [because] of Tim Tebow<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d Raiola said<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cA strong Christian person, played football in Florida, and I mean I just I look up to people that have good character and [is a] good person, and he was that guy at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of went away from it. Went to [No.] 1. Then, it just felt better to be a 15, honestly. At Buford [High School] \u2014 a funny story \u2014 KJ Bolden<\/a><\/strong> wore No. 1. And when I transferred there, we were trying to work something out like, \u2018Can I get No. 1?\u2019 and whatever. Then, it kind of just worked out to be 15 and I just started wearing it. I felt like it fit me and it\u2019s a cool number.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without a single snap yet at the collegiate level, Raiola has a lot of work to do to follow in Tebow\u2019s footsteps. Raiola played high school football at Buford (GA), where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 21 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the\u00a0On3 Industry Ranking<\/a><\/strong>, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.<\/p>\n

Raiola was initially committed to\u00a0Georgia<\/a><\/strong>, but ultimately swapped his commitment to Nebraska on Dec. 18. Raiola\u2019s father played for the Cornhuskers. Further, his uncle \u2014\u00a0Donovan Raiola<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 is currently on Rhule\u2019s staff as the offensive line coach and\u00a0recently received a contract extension<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dylan Raiola is putting in the work<\/h2>\n

At the 2024 Big Ten Media Days, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule<\/a><\/strong> praised Raiola\u2019s work ethic.<\/p>\n

\u201cDylan\u2019s done a great job just coming in and being one of the guys. He just shows up and he works. That\u2019s probably a credit to Dom and Yvonne (Raiola\u2019s parents),\u201d Rhule said. \u201cIf I walk in to get my little old man workout in the afternoon at 4 o\u2019clock he\u2019s usually there doing something extra. If I go in early in the morning, he\u2019s usually there throwing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Dylan has shown me is that he\u2019s willing to put that time in and the game comes natural to him because he puts the work in and I\u2019d say that\u2019s really that whole room. I think that\u2019s one reason why we brought [quarterbacks coach]\u00a0Glenn [Thomas]<\/strong>\u00a0in, so that they had somebody they could just just go to full-time.\u201d<\/p>\n
