Penn State will play in plenty of big games this fall. But, two of them made On3\u2019s list of the Big Ten\u2019s most important games in 2024. That leads today\u2019s newsstand, which also includes headlines from around the Internet that focus on the Nittany Lions and college athletics. <\/p>\n
On3 national columnist Jesse Simonton is continuing his conference-by-conference preseason preview series this week. The most recent installment focuses on the most important game for each Big Ten team. For Penn State, the pick is an obvious one: The Lions\u2019 Nov. 2 home date with Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>. Simonton writes: <\/p>\n \u201cIs this the year\u00a0James Franklin<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0gets the money off his back and starts winning an upset or two that spurs the Nittany Lions back the Big Ten title game for the first time since 2016?<\/p>\n \u201cFranklin is (in)famously just 4-16 against Michigan and Ohio State. The Wolverines aren\u2019t on the schedule this fall, but the Buckeyes are and it caps a very tricky three-week stretch for Penn State, which plays at USC and Wisconsin. Penn State\u00a0has a playoff-caliber team<\/a>, but we\u2019ll find out if the Nittany Lions are more than that if they can finally unseat Ohio State atop the Big Ten standings.\u201d<\/p>\n The Lions are also featured as a different team\u2019s most important opponent. He\u2019s around 6-2 and a half, 280, so he\u2019s not really elite in terms of his length or frame, but I think he kind of makes up for it with his effort level, his quickness and his ability to finish behind the line of scrimmage. So he\u2019s a guy who we really liked his junior film and we\u2019re looking forward to seeing more from him.
