New Michigan secondary coach LaMar Morgan is going after some of the nation\u2019s elite defensive backs in the 2026 recruiting class.<\/p>\n
Morgan recently dipped down into the state of Alabama and put an offer on the table for Top 100 Gadsden (Ala.) City cornerback Zyan Gibson.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI was happy to get that offer,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cIt meant a lot. I\u2019m looking more into them and want to learn about them. I know they are a great program, and they\u2019ve been winning. It was a blessing to get that offer.\u201d<\/p>\n Gibson is just starting to develop a relationship with Morgan, but the two had a positive first conversation.<\/p>\n \u201cHe seemed like a nice, chill guy,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cI enjoyed talking to him. He said he watched my film and that he wanted to give me an offer. It was a good conversation. We just have to keep talking.\u201d<\/p>\n Gibson added that he was impressed with Michigan\u2019s run to the national championship last season and the way the defense played throughout the year.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have a great defense,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cI was very impressed with the defense. I was also impressed that they beat Alabama. That was a great win. It shows what type of program they have.\u201d<\/p>\n The next step for Gibson is making his way to Michigan for his first-ever visit, which he hopes will happen at some point in the fall.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would be good to go out there to watch the game,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cI want to see what the environment is like and meet some of the coaches. I also want to see the facilities and things like that.\u201d<\/p>\n Overall, Gibson, who boasts an impressive 10.63 100-meter time, said he plans to take a measured approach to the recruiting process.<\/p>\n \u201cThe recruiting process has been a little stressful,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cI\u2019m just trying to get to as many schools as possible and see everything.\u201d<\/p>\n Along with Michigan, Gibson holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others.<\/p>\n At 6-foot-1, 174 pounds, Gibson is ranked as the No. 6 cornerback and No. 69 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 4 overall recruit in the state of Alabama for next cycle.<\/p>\n Auburn is considered the early leader on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 39.9 percent chance of landing him.
