Georgia<\/a><\/strong> has drawn criticism this offseason for their strength of schedule, or lack thereof, for the upcoming 2023 college football season.<\/p>\n

On3\u2019s JD PicKell defended the Bulldogs\u2019 schedule, which does not land on ESPN\u2019s top 25 strongest schedules<\/a><\/strong> list. The only other SEC team that didn\u2019t crack the list was Vanderbilt<\/a><\/strong>, meaning one loss could change Georgia\u2019s entire College Football Playoff hopes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t see Alabama<\/a><\/strong>. I don\u2019t see LSU<\/a><\/strong>. Georgia can\u2019t play themselves outside of the bloody Tuesday practice. So who\u2019s your most dangerous SEC opponent?\u201d PicKell asked<\/a>. \u201cThe team with the fifth-best odds to win the SEC, which is Tennessee<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs\u2019 2023 regular season schedule is not a fault of their own. Instead, the SEC scheduling format \u2014 which will change following the additions of Texas<\/a><\/strong> and Oklahoma<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 should be blamed for the slate of games the reigning two-time national champions are preparing for. Georgia\u2019s rotating SEC West matchup this season is <\/strong>Ole Miss<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Georgia\u2019s non-conference games are lacking, too. They play UT Martin<\/a><\/strong>, Ball State<\/a><\/strong> and UAB<\/a><\/strong> during three of the first four weeks of the season before going ahead with the meat of their SEC schedule. They finish their reason on the road against Georgia Tech<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 but play no high-profile, ranked teams outside of the SEC before the postseason. <\/p>\n

Despite being the clear favorite to win the SEC East, PicKell wouldn\u2019t sleep on the teams that Georgia does have to face. He listed some of the dark horse candidates that could give the Bulldogs a run for their money during their respective matchups.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Carolina<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 I will never count out Shane Beamer anymore as long as I live. \u2026 I\u2019m not predicting [Georgia] to lose that game, I\u2019m just saying let\u2019s give South Carolina the respect that they\u2019re due,\u201d PicKell said. \u201cA lot of people are sleeping on Tennessee. I\u2019m not going to be one of them. <\/p>\n

\u201cKentucky<\/a><\/strong>, who knows what they\u2019re going to be under [Mark] Stoops. Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin, every single year they seem to have a new way of getting it done.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bottom line is that no matter the schedule, the SEC will always be tough. The scheduling frustrations from outside the Georgia bubble is understandable, but at the end of the day \u2014 it\u2019s not Georgia\u2019s fault. The SEC is still a gauntlet and if Georgia is far and above the best team in the East, they should be able to prove their worth in the SEC Championship game and beyond. <\/p>\n
